If anything, I think Gerry watching the game last night probably will be pushed to go all in on Amorim even more than before. If Amorim asks for a CB then Gerry will do whatever he can to get him one. He already got him his CF and RWB, overpaying significantly for both. Once we let go of the big expensive players, we should have room in the budget for one final move.

I keep hearing this, but if we cannot sell Leao, I think he'd thrive in the role that Cisse played today. Cisse got to float out wide when he wanted and attack the defense when he had the chance.

I like the kid, I like what I've seen, but until he scored, he wasn't being particularly effective. I felt this way after the Man Utd game. Of course, a goal changes everything, and I'm so happy for the kid and I'm rooting for him. I hope Mancini ignores him and forgets that he's Italian.

He's a young player, and while I would love for him to explode like El Shaarawy (without the injuries and all that) and we find ourselves with our new star boy who becomes our Yamal, I don't want to put that pressure on him, not yet.

Our LAM is not really an AM, it's a winger. Amorim is doing the asymmetrical thing with us, where his RWB is more of a winger, his LWB is more cautious, his RAM is more of an AM, this is what he did at Sporting.

I'm curious to see how Pulisic would do. I think what Cisse does well is that he takes responsibility and he wants the ball, he wants to try things. Leao does that. Pulisic is less comfortable in that role, he is the 2 in a 1-2 punch. Of course, we haven't seen Pulisic under Amorim yet, I hope he thrives.

If we sell Leao, then we need to take that money and put it into a CB. If there is some left over, get another LWB, because unless we see some Pervis redemption arc (would love it) we are going to suffer with Pervis and Pav on the same side

There’s one thing that Cisse did incredibly well where Leao tends to falter, and it was his ability to keep the ball in possession. Torino were pressing us back to goal when we tried to move into the middle third and 9/10 times he would manage to keep it circulating. Leao’s ball retention under pressure is genuinely awful and that would kill a lot of Amorim’s dialled in build up play.

He’s only 19 which is crazy. There were maybe 2 or 3 moments where he showed a bit of inexperience but on the whole he was still excellent. AND there’s a whole season to play still. The sky is the limit.

I don't think they were every really going to get an AM. What happened yesterday most likely stopped us from getting a LWB if anything, because Cisse confirming himself means Saelemaekers is free to focus on LWB/RWB. Everything is pointing to us spending on the CB if we will spend. We only have 5 players for 3 positions, and that's including Sankhoun Diawara.

It seems they're trusting Cisse and Camarda for the season. Which, after all, is how you find out if they're ready.

If Camarda falls through we sign a backup for Ramos in January, but I think he will do well.

I agree partially with people saying the bigger need is a CB, but from what we've heard Amorim allegedly wanted to trust what we have there.

I think on the whole people should give Gabbia, Pavlovic and KDW the benefit of the doubt and let them learn from Amorim. They can do well IMO, and I believe he is the better judge of their suitability than we are. Saying that I would obviously warmly welcome another CB of Gila's calibre.

This was the kind of season opener where you suddenly look at every player in the squad with new eyes. I mean, Musah played a good game...! It was only the first game, but I never in a million years expected the team to look this transformed after one small month under Amorim. Which also makes it really important for Gerry to go all out and give him the pieces he asks for.

I'm still 50/50 on the CB/AM question. Spend big on one player, in either position. Someone who can make the difference. I don't think it would hurt to have another attacker capable of multiple goals.

That would really sideline Comotto though. Rabiot hasn't forgotten how to play CM because he plays as CAM, he could always fill in at CM. If we have 8-9 players + Saele for the 4 CM and CAM spots we should be fine

The safe option is to pass backwards – the Torino players even anticipate it and start moving past him to press the expected receiver.



Under Allegri, that's the pass we make nine times out of ten. Instead Musah turns. Lose the ball there and we're in trouble. Get it right and suddenly two opponents are eliminated, the entire midfield opens up and seconds later we score. That goal is at leat 50% Musahs.



That's the thin margin between safety and risk. Allegri was obsessed with avoiding the counter; Amorim accepts that risk for what we can gain from it. And I fucking love it. Of course it'll sometimes backfire and cost us goals – that's football. As fans, we need to understand why these risks are being taken instead of crucifying everyone when they fail. That obsession with avoiding mistakes is exactly what has held Italian football back for decades, while progressive coaches like Gasperini and Fabregas are still treated with suspicion for daring to take risks.

Agreed. Musah was key to the first goal, and played well all game. Yet afterwards I saw at least one person here spazzing and saying he needs to be immediately sold. The lack of understanding of the game some people have is baffling.

This was the role he played in Spain and for the USNT, and for me he bossed the midfield as a 20 year old.

It's one game, but this is the sort of stuff that got me kinda excited about him.

Hopefully he can develop further, add some footballing smarts, and composure to his game.

As an emergency WB, okay, bit that's not his best position. Amorim gets a gold star just for playing this kid in the right position. Weirdly that was something I appreciated about Pioli when he first came in... Before going full r3t4rd.

Now if Jashari can make his mark in the coming games. Modric can enjoy early retirement and tutor a few guys.

Anyway you cut it, it's just good to see some players get a shot and step up.

As @Alo88 said, he loses possession and we're having a very different conversation, but I've always thought there is a player in there, he's just been played out of position constantly and poorly coached.

It's like he's told "okay your versatile and can run, go play here, then here, oh and over there, no not there, back there, then over there..."

But as I say, it's one game... I'm hopeful, but let's see.
