I don't get that Kjaer story because they showed him in his match jersey ready at the side of the pitch and then several minutes later Kalulu came on

I think Pioli just changed his mind and went for Kalulu's pace
Kjaer publicly criticised Pioli for his choices not long ago so who knows

The faster we get a new manager in, the faster he can fail, the faster we can fire Maldini for this calcio suicide squad he has assembled, and the faster the clueless posters can stop posting long asinine essays.

I am against piolis firing but the the upside that will take place after his firing is just waaaay too tasty. :star: :star:

Yeah, I'm reserving judgment until we know more. It seems very out of character. What Kjaer said publicly was that he disliked not playing, which is fair and he gave us some strong showings in big games this season. But man was he terrible in the first leg vs Inter.

If he truly dicked around and soured at such a moment he deserves a whack in the back of his head.

Tomori is still a relative young CB. Yes he is 25 but he's never been a regular starter at the top level till he got to Milan. And yet he is our 2nd most experienced CB. He needs an experienced organiser alongside him to guide him telling him when to push went to drop. Kjaer while he is an experienced player he was on the scrap heap and bit of a meme when he joined us. A solid pro but not an organiser like Thiago Silva is who learnt his trade under experienced organisers himself. Also having no screen in front of him doesnt help Tomori either as he has to cover too much ground by himself and like most defenders with speed tend to do is cheat and be over aggressive and think their speed will get them out if it.
This he is a secondary cb very fast very quick twitch with 0 concentration player. We need a leader in cb. Pierre regressed and not built for full time cb. Kjaer old and kinda unprofessional to lead. Thiaw has potential but 2 years from full time starter. Get a sure starter at cb please. Newcastle sir do you need Iniesta for botman?

That said after today I will sell his ass too

What we need are stronger attacking players, maybe CDK grows inhouse but we need one or two serious players to add threat and numbers.

I don't think this is all on Pioli, and I'm not sure De Zerbi would've done much better with this attack.
Thats what i think aswell and what i wanted to point out in my comments. But again..people rate De Zerbi here a lot so i wouldnt mind giving him a chance. But again…if we could have given Pioli some better players i think he could have done more

Kjaer publicly criticised Pioli for his choices not long ago so who knows

eh, he said this:

"Sometimes it goes your way, other times it doesn’t. It’s ultimately the coach’s decision. The Tottenham game was perhaps my best after my injury, so the fact that I haven’t played since obviously makes me a bit frustrated [...] Of course, I’m disappointed when I don’t play. It’s been like that at Milan, and I was also like that when I was 21, it hasn’t changed. I still have the same hunger and energy to play football. He [Pioli] is trying to give continuity to a new system and at least I’ve got an explanation as to why I’m not playing. I have a good relationship with the coach, and he knows that I want to play."

I think this whole Kjaer attitude issue is way overblown, he wants to play and was angry (probably mostly at himself) to come off after a bad performance in the first leg, but he's always spoken very highly of Pioli.

It is all on Pioli. The players have no idea what to do when we have the ball. They make random runs into space but we don't pass, because there's no system in place that makes it second nature. CDK, Saelemaekers, Messies, Tonali... They all make runs, but we rarely pull the trigger. It's always sterile because we're only always looking to isolate Leao against a defender. When we inevitably hit a brick wall, we cross to Giroud and hope for the best. We've been doing that all year.

I think CDK in a system that maximizes his qualities will be our supertar next season. I can imagine him either in the right sided CF/AM false 9 role for De Zerbi. We need a more direct RW that he can play off of, but having a more systematic approach to his movement and choices will really help him think less. We need automated movements and repeatable patterns. You can do that with limited players.

We need a system coach again and there's no one out there that's a better fit for us than De Zerbi. I mean look at that video I posted and tell me it's not a perfect fit for our playstyle and existing squad. A CF that can drop and run in behind and a more direct RW is all we're missing.

I beg to differ, the speed is nice but how and from where he makes those tackle lunges is just poor defending in my opinion. Space in front of him or not. How the hell is an army suppose to protect a king inside his castle when his defenders go out looking for the enemy. Had he just stayed back At least then it's a better numerical advantage for defenders. And this happened throughout this season..Malick Thiaw will exceed him in no time.

What I agree with is @brk saying that Pioli has taken us as far as he can.

So many decisions this season tell the tale of a delaminating approach. He seemed so good on learning and adapting before :( How @Samaldinho outlined how he had the recipe after Tottenham vs a 352 and how he completely forgot about that in our most important games since Athens. It's hard to accept, and I'm dejected and sad about it.

I think such a weak squad has limited him immensely though, and taken the wind out of his sails mentally a little bit. But that doesn't excuse him freezing out Adli.

I'm a little embarrassed about how I imploded yesterday, but this club for me is all emotion. Toughest defeat to swallow since Istanbul for me.

He is number 1 midfielder in our team and maybe in the league. He is special we need to give him more responsibilities and push him. His defensive concentration is suspect but he is a machine.

I think Tonali was the one that tried the most yesterday yep. He’s our best midfielder. But he needs a coach that maximise his quality. Pioli doesn’t seem capable of it

We've been building an incredible team for the past three years that is deadly in transition. When we don't have the space to transition. we turn into basically banter era Milan. This is not normal. We can't be this easy to counter.

What De Zerbi does that's unique is take a high risk high reward approach where he literally lures teams into pressing, which leaves space for players to quickly run into. This isn't a typical counterattacking strategy, where you give the other team the ball and hit them on the break when they lose it (which is what Inter does well). No, De Zerbi looks to DOMINATE possession, but when there's no space, they try to pass the ball around in really dangerous areas around their own box, luring the opposition to overcommit, which opens up space to attack. It's risky and sometimes implodes, but it's a STRATEGY. It's repeatable. It usually works, and that's something we can do to build on and mold our squad and players to excel at.

This is another good analysis of why it can work so well with us. Imagine Maignan with the sort of responsibilities this sort of risky build up gives him. He has the courage and ability to play high risk passes into midfield, and it would really be a huge advantage. We're not using him as well as we could, as we're relying more on his long rage passing this season.

After watching this i can see why u say that we have the players for this. Mike is great on ball and the same goes for Thiaw/Kalulu/Kjaer and even Tomori. Tonali and Isma are also great to drop back, collect and tiki taka around until we open some space for the forwards. Clearly Giroud could hold the ball but we need a great AM and a speedy RW aswell. Looks interesting but again if we dont sign players…its not goona be easy

@Cloren @Hitchens @patosheva was it pioli magic tactics that allowed Theo to burst through from left back and score those wonder goals when he arrived his first season, or was it individual brilliance? Reason I ask is those runs have dried up this season with less g/a contributions.

How much you wanna bet Pioli wont be sacked?

If this cheapskate ownership cant provide the bare minimum in January when the team was desperately crying out for replacements they sure as hell wont pay to sack a coach and then pay again to hire De Zerbi.

Folks are in for a rude awakening if they expect anything from the snake oil salesman.

Don't you guys wish to be a fly on the wall just to listen to the tactical conversations between pioli and his staff.. It's mind boggling that he just reverted back to 4231 after having been defeated countless times THIS season...

It's a shame they cancelled the Champions League this year. Was looking forward to us playing but instead we'll have no memory of what happened and definitely nothing bad happened yesterday.

(I am coping please help)
