I'm not saying it's impossible that our net spending will be 50M in the end. I'm only saying no one can know our net spendings now because that will heavily depend on what wages and taxes will be "attached" to them - and that's still a rather simplistic way of approaching the complexity of each transfer, let alone a whole mercato, especially when we think of all the variables like who gets how much % from international image rights, national image rights, sponsorship deals, sign-on bonus, commissions, kit sales, merch, and and and. Even we simple minded people from the RnB Business School of Internet can't nearly fathom how crazily complex these deals and negotiations are. Ironing out some last details shortly before a deal is announced is probably the closest we ever get to that complexity.

50M for SMS on 5M wages on a 5-year-contract with full taxes is totally different than 50M for a 18 years old kid from France with a breakout season and therefore only 2M wages on a 5-year-contract with decreto crescita for example. In one case you have further 50M attached between wages and taxes, in the other case 15M.

That's a hell of a difference, even if in both cases the net spend on the fee is 50M.

I guess all the wages are going to be within a narrow range ( 2 - 4 mil for incoming first team players ) and incoming players salaries should be offset by outgoing players like Bakayoko, Dest, Origi, Zlatan, Rebic . So, the total team salary shouldn't change too much from last year. Based on that they could estimate what kind of transfer spend might be allowed. Though if they get a really high salary player like Dybala or Vlahovic, then the extra salary spend would cut into the allowed transfer spend.

let's see how much we spend this summer but if the face value number is around 70 then you accounts guys need to give the journos some props.

Its the number most fans will lock on to and if it's close (the amount spent on transfers not counting all of your other variables) then I will argue it's an accurate indication. They are providing a relevant number that matches what their audience understands it to be.

The idea is to keep wages within certain parameters with outgoings leveling ingoings & keeping total cost of new players close to a certain budget in iur case its 50mil/season & you are green.
So they have a structure for wages followed by one for purchases.

Was going to make a similar point. I truly appreciate managers that evolve their plans to get the most out of their players, and I believe Pioli does that. He has built a (mostly) winning team with the limited resources he had, and developed a strategy that worked for a while. Problem is other teams have adapted, and he has not found a way to evolve. Bottom line, probably the right coach for our last few years, not the right coach going forward. We are probably going to see him one more year, and hopefully the squad will improve. Longer term, I hope we can do better.

Give him the right players and he will deliver.
