Even before the renewal there was rumours stating Maldini wanted more power before extending. And when he renewed media said he had more power.

It’s obvious now. Gerry gave in because he couldn’t let Maldini go in that transitional period, but also if it’s true Maldini got more power than it’s obvious that it actually didn’t help the team and things got worse.

Look if he's running down his contract and leaving on a free I don't think he has great character or cares about his image, so that shouldn't be a problem
