With our Belgian colleague Sacha Tavolieri, a renowned transfer expert, we took stock of AC Milan's negotiations with Belgian clubs. The latest name on the list is Archie Brown, the English left-back from Gent. And we're keeping an eye on Jashari, whose negotiations are taking on the feel of a soap opera. Here's what he had to say to MilanNews.it
Sacha, Archie Brown's name has been linked to AC Milan. What more can you tell us?
"I don't think AC Milan are really interested in Archie Brown. It's more the agents' game to give the player visibility, but there's nothing to confirm."
Do you think it's a good deal for the Rossoneri?
"He's not ready to play for Milan, we have to be honest. I've been following him all season, he has good potential, but not enough to be a starter for the Rossoneri."
What kind of player is he?
"In all fairness, he's almost similar to Theo. He has quality and a willingness to push forward. He has potential, he's physically strong and he uses it, but he needs to learn to defend. He's not ready to be Theo's replacement."
In the past, one of the full-backs Milan looked at was Maxim De Cuyper, who had just signed for Brugge. Are Brown and De Cuyper so far apart in terms of quality?
"The comparison is impossible. De Cuyper is a more ready player. Archie has great potential, as I said, but in terms of impact, Brown isn't consistently strong. He's not ready for Milan and can't be compared to De Cuyper, who's already an international. He's shown with the national team and in the Champions League with Brugge that he can perform well."
What's Archie Brown's current value?
"I think he's worth around €5 million. He's not a very expensive player, but I don't think it's a concrete deal with AC Milan."
Meanwhile, negotiations between AC Milan and Brugge for Jashari are at a standstill.
"It was clear that Brugge didn't want to budge from the €40 million, and they're proving to be a strong club by maintaining this position. So the offer of €33 million plus €5 million in bonuses needs to be revised, but discussions are ongoing. Jashari also wants to go to AC Milan, and AC Milan wants Jashari at all costs. The boy already has an agreement, he's waiting for the one between the clubs. I think it will be reached."
