However, from what little I have seen, he is a high-character type of player. I think if he makes the jump to play, I think he will be a Jordan Henderson type of player. Flashes of the skill that got him there, but he is a workhorse.

I really am rooting for that class from our youth team to be a huge part of our squad.

Hahaha broooo, that's like Tijji's worst nightmare. Sure it's sort of a meaningless match but I don't think he'd ever imagine anchoring a full attacking team with fullbacks of Rico and Nico who are both absolute shite defensively. I am genuinely afraid on behalf of him.

The argument against Reijnders was that he's turning 27, doesn't have the "youth premium," and that only EPL players get that sort of price--that's why many others have pointed to players who were younger, were not in the EPL, and yet still got large transfer fees. Tonali ticks all the boxes of a player that should have been sold for more at the time.

The gambling thing was not known at the time nor was it even rumored, it only came out months later--saying that we knew is weird because it would make our use of bonuses to be a particularly odd choice, as it would mean we left money on the table.

The point about Tonali is that, like Reijnders, we did not open the potential sale to other suitors, we got the deal done early and rewarded Newcastle and Man City by selling them with very little resistance, and without holding out for better terms. If we are going to be a team that sells players to fund our markets or, like this year, sell players so we can make up for being in 8th place, then we should be trying to maximize every euro.
