I remember games where we couldn't service a ball into the box. I'm curious to see Higuain score so many goals with the wingers he has right now. Hell even his goal over the weekend he came out of the box to receive the ball and score a nice curler.

look at our midfield. compare that to our rivals. look at our wingers, compare them to our rivals. All top 4 teams have better players and more quality depth. Lazio may not have many world class players but they are a very well balanced side and I dont think we are better than them either. It doesnt matter how much we spend on quality players, we will still be below top 4 if our rivals keep improving and further strengthening their squad unless we buy players that add quality depth to make milan a strong balanced side.

I don't know if Roma have a better attack than us and their mid is okay but not some creative juggernaut with Cristante and N'Zonzi as their additions. I don't know where Patore will play, I really like him but he's missed major time over the last three seasons. Dzeko is even older than Higuain and not of the same quality. Suso and Hakan are more than solid on the wings, even if Under is good.

My prediction this season:

Juve
Napoli
Inter
Milan
Roma
Lazio

Let's not forget Icardi could have easily had 3 or 4 goals that game. He miraculously missed every sitter.

Because we did what we did all of last season when we didn't score or went behind. Freaked out and went in a shell. Many times (not always) the best form of defense is offense. If you have what I still consider a top 5 striker in the world putting pressure on their defense, they don't get to come at us like they did.

We were missing pace to go at them, we have that now too.

And Bakayoko and Kessie, while not great technically, have the lungs and strength to break up almost any midfield if they get going. Getting the ball back is going to be huge for us to succeed. Gattuso knows how to do that and while I wasn't crazy about Bakayoko coming initially, I think I see what he might have had in mind. And I like it, since they both have room to grow as well.

exactly. real fans who understand football know what we lack and require to compete with top sides.
Not to mention we have no depth in midfield. Not one single creative CM. We desperately need another top quality winger too. I dont know. I honestly think we are the fifth best team at present. on par with lazio. jube roma napoli inter are all superior unless ofcourse we land a top mid.

Signing SMS will put our midfield on par with Napoli/Inter/Roma and give us an outside shot at achieving CL. He will partially solve the creativity issue and help lift the goal scoring burden off Higuain.

However, only by signing a legit top winger (no Halilovic/Samu types) will CL be all but certain. Playing 4-3-3 and relying on 2 super slow "half wingers" like Hakan and Suso with just children like Halilovic + Samu as backups is madness. I actually feel sorry for Higuain. Apparently Roma are closing in on Bailey. If they get him our chances of landing top 4 will diminish dramatically. We should thank our lucky stars Malcolm fucked them over because he's a real gem

We are the ones paying Genoa. They owed us 11m for Lapa but we're getting Laxalt for 18m (give or take a few mill for these numbers).

Laxalt seems to be getting 93.

https://twitter.com/MilanEye/status/1029853989372870657

There were reports that Genoa had a tough time paying the 11m that was left on the transfer fee for Lapadula. I think them selling him might be a way for them to pay us off, if those reports were true.

I hope he's taking the 93, having the 7 open gives me hope, for some reason.

And then there's the Pato rumor, lol.

Calhanoglu was one of the best in the league over the second half of the season. I expect a HUGE season from him. Mark it here.

why don't we just get Rafinha? Great under pressing and can advance the ball, create and pick a final pass?

I hope so but I think inter is above Napoli easily. inter is far too strong now. Roma has regressed and lazio are powerful as always. Lazio has the best depth compared to milan and roma.

I think that's generous for Napoli. This team is not on par with the teams Carlo has generally succeeded with in the past.

I second this.

Think some fans seem to forget where we were a month ago. But Elliot come in, overturn our ban, sack F&M and replace them with competent directors - with little time left in the market. Then after hearing that Bonucci wants to leave Leo does a masterclass and secures Higuain and Caldara. Gets rid of fodders and their wages. Adds pace and depth to the team with Laxalt and Castillejo.

But if we finish the market without SMS we're no chance of making CL

Roma and Lazio are the realistic targets for us to overtake. Napoli should regress but not enough to help us pass them IMO.

What exactly was Gattuso's offensive philosophy last season because I didn't see much of it haha. Most times we looked like headless chickens going forward. Defensively Gattuso was well prepared gave us a shape. Hopefully Leo can give him an offensive player that can make a difference between today and tomorrow.

no one has hit the panic button but realistic people who aren't bias see top 4 isn't going to be easy as currently constructed.

Considering Leo's past preference for 4-2-fantasia, the slim option in mid along with these two new wingers, I think Leo is pushing 4-2-3-1 on Gattuso.

Also considering our only strikers now are Higuain-Cutrone-Borini, this means no 4-3-1-2.

Higuain (Cutrone)

Laxalt (Bona) - Hakan - Suso (Samu)

Biglia - Kessie (Cakayoko)

RR- Caldara - Romagnoli - Conti

I agree on Inter to an extent. Was tempted to put them second. But I think its a hard turn in just one season from Inter who clearly overachieved and considering Napoli were close to the scudetto on their own merit. This is definitely the hardest Serie A standings to predict in a while (barring Juve).

Tired of hearing about Inter's midfield. They have a great attack (if Icardi is healthy) and great CBs. Fullbacks are OK. Midfield is not much better than ours ASSUMING Brozovic performs. If not, they are no better than us. He was shit just 8 months ago, even according to the Interisti that are on his nuts now. Gagliardini clearly overrated and they realize that now. Nainggolan was nowhere near his top levels last season either.

if we signed Rafinha and Promes we would almost certainly finish top 4. Right now getting top 4 would be a great achievement

what are we going to do if pipita gets injured? cutrone lel? that guy is a nobody compared to pipita and isnt remotely close to the former's level. Our quality drops drastically If pipita gets injured. If Hasan and suso get injured, we will literally have zero creativity in the team.
