The idea of Leao as an center forward isn't new and he does have some suitable characteristics but for the moment being I can't help to think this idea is unbased wishful thinking. Leao did a lot better as LW and this season is the season he enters knowing the league and he's expected to take the next step. For that to happen between substitutions he'll likely need some continuity in his preferred position.

Considering our 2nd and 3rd options for striker are our 1st and and 2nd options for LW and the fact Ibra is 39 soon and will likely have to miss some games due to fitness.. plus the games players miss due to Covid factor, it’s not like we’re getting overstocked at LM with Hauge if we get him. Also Rebic has discipline issues will get 1/2 red cards per season. We have 50 games potentially this season. Hauge will get more than enough playing time for 1st season in Italy.

His main issue is still attitude. He doesn't track back and press as well as all our wingers and even Ibra for that matter. And that idiosyncrasy is vital for Pioli preferred type of player. He'll always be last in the pecking order if he doesn't improve in that aspect.

Ibra: tracks back and even presses occasionally
Rebic: Presses and tracks back
Hakan: Presses and tracks back at a top level
Noodle: Presses and tracks back
Sales: Presses and tracks back, and getting better with each game
Diaz: Haven't seen much of him, but I assume he presses at least at a basic level given Maldini signed him for Pioli
Maldini: showed signs of tracking back and pressing against Bodo, so I assume he's getting used to Pioli's instructions.
Colombo: was poor in that aspect against Bodo tbh.
(if)Hauge: based on his match against us, also presses and tracks back.

Leao's skills tops most of the above, but that's not the bread and butter of what Pioli wants.
