so trying to hold the ball and dictate the play is submissive tactic? :fp:

Passing the ball in your own half isn't dictating the play.

Over doing the same thing over and over while it was not working isn’t the smartest move.

It’s better to lose the ball in midfield then to lose it in or near out box.

When we are pressed high we forget how to move the ball and we get complacent.

It’s only the first game of the season. We will bounce back.

Top 4 will be achieved if we are consistent against mid to lower table teams.

Mission accomplished.

I already said that there's another hype job for summer 2019 right after the deadline - it's Zielinski.

but it was clearly working. we moved the ball around very well. only thing that was not working was we lost the ball easily when we got to their half. that is the area we have to improve on. we wouldn't be 2-0 ahead if it wasn't for that tactics and you guys would be moaning about 3-0 loss instead of 3-2.

Zielinski will renew his contract with 100m exit clause soon.

His current contract has 60m release clause.

so what should we do? send long ball to bona? higuian? suso? borini? who else? also keyword "trying".

Yeah passing into space would be a good place to start. We brought in a winger, how about we use him and pass into space, and let him cut inside and do his thing.

Also how about we stop playing Bona since he is fucking useless?

Correct me if I'm wrong but we've scored 2 beatiful goals building up from the back away to Napoli

I wouldn't say it's got to be scratched, we need to limit individual errors and with time they'll get better and more comfortable = faster build up

Biglia needs to get his shit together otherwise were fucked. He's the only player with those kind of characteristics.

What was working?

Losing 3-0 means you’re bad

Losing 3-2 after leading 0-2 means you equally incompetent and bad.

There are positives to take from this game but there are a lot of similarities with bad performances from last season as well.

Do you think we learned our lesson from last season where we played 10 starters who are used to the formation, instructions and philosophy?

if we played the winger we brought he would look as good as bakayoko did. and passing into space, you think its easy? koulibaly, albiol would be sleeping? who is going to send those magnificient pinpoint passes? pirlo?

Bona did not put a foot wrong in the whole game. Be objective.

CM: Gattuso might field Montolivo in Biglia’s spot for the next games.

Yeah because he's the only one capable of holding together a 3 man mid in our team. When he's on we just play smoother

That doesn't change the fact that he has commuted too many errors v Napoli. It's only the first game of the season he'll pick up just like the rest of the team

We'll be much stronger with Reina, Biglia performing again & Hakan back + having the new boys ready of the bench to give us a boost when needed will help us out

no. losing after leading 2-0 showed us two different milan side. one which is good and played calmly and one which was scared and clueless(we had some good counterattacking opportunities and could still have won). it also showed two sides of gattuso(he couldn't figure out to see out the game after we conceded). on the other hand losing 3-0 means we are just plain bad. so for me no its not the same. and if we didn't play the way we did we would be looking at another heavy loss against them like we are used to.

 He still can do a good job there, I´m so glad we still have him. Try to get Biglia in shape in the meantime, my theory is that he still suffers from going to the world cup instead of resting, he isn´t young for a footballer obviously.

Why Conte? Why not a coach that plays attractive football and can succeed in Europe? :monto:

Personally I would stick with Gattuso and see if he improves. If he doesn't I agree he needs to go but it is still way too early in the season and we are just one match in.

I also agree that Conte might not be the solution. Firstly he plays 3 at the back and that is unsuitable for the players in our squad at present. The other thing is, Conte is no guarantee for top 4 as he proved at Chelsea last season - and he had a team with Hazard, Kante, Courtois, Cesc and Willian, all top class players. Another thing is Conte is mostly grinta, unattractive football and he has not been able to succeed in Europe even with a top squad. Not sure why Conte is being made out to be such an enticing option. Only reason he won so many scudettos with Juve was because they were well managed in terms of finances, transfers and possibly buying out referees and also due to the Milan clubs' decline.

Having said that though, not many available managers fit the description of playing attractive football and success in Europe.

Zidane is probably Juventus-bound due to his history with them. Jupp Heynckes is retired. Lippi and Capello are probably passed it. Frank Rijkaard would be nice but he has done very poorly since Barcelona and one suspects his success was down to a similar style of management to Zidane - when you have the top players all you have to do is let them play. When you need to develop players it is a bit difficult.

Leonardo Jardim is one I like but doubt he would leave Monaco. Klopp is another one but he'll stay at Liverpool for the forseeable future. Can't really think of any other managers that fit the description. Carletto would have been ideal although some would disagree. In any case he's not available either.

I thought Gattuso said he wasn't brought for the tour and for the Napoli match because he was injured. He even brought Mauri for the Napoli game.

Maybe it was just a way to save face.

I hope Monto does well. I wanted to see the back of him but since we lost Locatelli and Biglia looks fatigued/out of sorts he's really all we have.

I'm not looking forward to the meltdown here when he does all his horizontal or backward passes though
