We’re negotiating 3.5m for Bennacer. Why give Renato 4.5m or 5m he’s asking for? He’s not a superstar like Leao that deserves a salary much higher than everyone else. Our main group will all end up with around 3-4m, which is fair. Renato doesn’t deserve more. It’s still possible he changes his mind, and if not there’s other midfielders out there I’m sure. Sponsorship deals are coming, they are helping, we're increasing our revenues but players are also asking for higher wages (rightly). So even those deals can only bring you so far. The next real bump in revenues (and profit, hopefully) will only come with our own stadium, and you know very well that thanks to Italys medieval bureaucracy only god knows when that will be ready. 5 years? 8 years? 10?? So until then, it's the way it is. Nothing to do with our owners.

And yes, UEFA does look at our books with a magnifying glass. Already forgotten that one time they kicked us out of Europa League?

Oh and: Yes, Inter and Juve are buying players. They are also selling players. They sell in order to buy. Do you want us to sell Leao and Theo in order to cheer for Dybala incoming? We got a ton of players for under 30m who we can now sell for over 70m. Our track record with signing players isn’t so bad.

I also don’t think I’m optimistic, I’m a realist. Everything I’m saying is based on patterns that we’ve developed. I think the key point is patience and trusting that because of the scouting team we’ll eventually find the right players.
