Do you consider 100mil as a sufficient budget for a team in europe ?
I think its an elite budget.
With that said , 50mil isnt as bad as many here think specially when you are going for a self sufficient club & with a stadium as the main focus.
Its why for this project to work then Maldini or whoever SD we got should be ruthless & close to perfect.
Maldini ruining two consecutive mercato is something to worry about & only until he shows the Maldini of four years ago then why would our owner give him more ?!
Its better for him to get his shit together first or else 100mil will be wasted as easy as 50mil.
I agree. Our last 3 mercatos have been disastrous. The results are showing now

Our team has gone sideways/backwards over the last 1-2 years

We could have been so much better by now

If CDK is this bad and we ship him in the summer I’m sure we could get 25m for him

I agree though if he sucks for another season then his value will plummet

We'll have the same patience for him as we had for Leao. Even if it takes two or even three full seasons to blossom. I don't think we're looking to sell him on a quick profit. The deals for players like Hauge, Adli, Lazetic or even Vranckx are better structured for a short profit on our way if they don't explode before. CDK tho is a longterm project, no doubt.

Kerkez is balling in Eredivisie. Blame Pioli because he will never take a Primavera player to the first team.
Kerkez specifically I can’t blame Pioli much because the best LB in the world plays in his position

But all other youngsters he’s been horrible. Not giving Adli and Vrankcx more minutes is horrible

Same with Kalulu until he had no other healthy CBs he didn’t get to play

If we are doing a youth project we need someone who has a track record of developing youth

Pioli is a bit hit and miss here I hope he improves

I hope so, but we need him to at least show something this year. Leao while inconsistent had the obvious world class potential from day 1. CDK still hasn’t shown me much, he looks timid and afraid

I was eyeing the fan favorite from the sidelines all summer

yeah in hindsight, there was much hopium tied to his extension. realistically, there weren't many reasons for him not to extend. he built this team and won the scudetto. why would he throw that away just because the budget didn't turn out as hoped?

he was just trying to secure his bag, but knowing elliott/gerry the budget was too limited even for that. hence the late extension.

Perhaps we should let CDK go on loan to an EPL side. Dry loan. No option. If he scores 2 or 3, he'd probably be valued at 45mil+
Staying here, he won't get much opportunity and even if he does, it's less likely he performs as well as he would out on loan. And his value is more likely to increase in the EPL than here.

I understand that, but he shouldn’t have acted all bossed up. All that talk just to let him spend 40million is the lowest of the lowest
Also the fact he didn’t even give us enough time to celebrate the scudetto before putting us all under stress and use us for sympathy.

Kerkez is balling in Eredivisie. Already played over 30 games with AZ. Only 19 years old. Blame Pioli because he will never take a Primavera player to the first team.
We had a lot of offers to go out on loan, but being a loan player is a risky situation. Maybe the team wants to play their player from the academy instead of you, so I didn’t really like the loan decision. I wanted to get a permanent transfer if possible, and it was really hard because Milan didn’t want to give me up that easy. I had a few clubs from Germany, but I really liked AZ’s offer and it was a simple decision with the way they planned things for me.”

its on Pioli that he refused to be loaned out right?

yeah it backfired pretty badly. mercato was disastrous from the get-go. starting with his late extension, to the months-long negotiation for cdk, all the way to the disappointing additions/transfer decisions.

For other rich club owners 20-30 mil is like pocket change. Even if a 20-30 mil player doesn't work out, they forget about it and move on to the next. Arsenal paid huge amounts for Aubameyang and Lacazette who left on free transfers. Pepe was sold at a big discount. And Arsenal isn't even some super high revenue team like Man City or Real.

Here Cardinale seems to be out his depth. Which other club owner is worth 200 mil? Freaking CR7 makes 200 mil a year now! Maybe they should sell the club to CR7 or Mbappe instead! Mbappe could even be an owner plus player!!

as long as we are in the hands of an investment firm/hedge fund, we should not expect any investments. we will always only spend what the club can afford and not a penny more. these are not owners like kroenke is at arsenal for example. the man owns an nba team, he doesn't care about money at all.

i also have no issue with our approach, because i don't expect to dominate serie a and win back-to-back titles when your annual budget is 30-50mil. the only thing that baffles me is how little the club itself can or is allowed to invest?! our finances are among the healthiest in italy but the best we can do in winter is a loan with option or a transfer for 2mil. ridiculous.
bayern is often mentioned here as an example for sustainability but they have worked 10-15 years until they were in this position. in a league without real competition. we don't have that time if we want to compete for the CL in 3-5 years.:o

Let's play a fun game called 'Rank Maldini's worst transfers so far'

The nominees are:
CDK (32m)
Junior Messias (9m in total)
Divock Origi (4m per year, 4 years contract)
Sergino Dest (4.5m wages)
Yacine Adli (11m)
Bakayoko (2.5m per year)
Duarte (12m)
Piatek (35m)

i don't see a big difference here tbh. the key players all played a similar number of minutes.
tomori 2.164 - 2.154 kim
tonali 2.021 - 2.134 lobotka
leao 1.964 - 1.458 kvara (missed 5 games)
bennacer 1.943 - 1.878 anguissa
theo 1.918 - 2.226 di lorenzo
giroud 1.631 - 1.432 osimhen

the backup minutes are also not too far apart.

the biggest difference is mike and kalulu/rrahmani (missed 9 games), yet one team apparently has been physically broken and played into the ground. how??? most of them had a 2 month break. kim even played in the world cup ffs, so what is tomori's excuse for his ongoing blunders? napoli came out of the break like the same team while we somehow look a lot worse than we did in november, because we're tired now. yeah idk that's a cheap cop-out for our current state imo.
Oh, now you like stats all of a sudden?

I'm sorry I used the eye test to prove you wrong.

I don’t know what messi got to do with zaniolo

You acting like zaniolo is this messias level player.. not talking about stats
Zaniolo is worth the gamble, we have seen how countless of players started performing the moment they changed clubs
I realize I won't get an answer to my question. That's fine :)

I think with Messias they paid less than the loan redemption amount. The news said they paid 2 mil this summer to sign him which makes 4 mi total. That's around the right price for Messias. Piatek was signed by Leonardo after he fucked up by signing Higuain and they to had get Higuain's 18 mil gross salary of the books! They actually saved money by getting Piatek to replace Higuain. And they managed to sell Piatek for 24 mil.

CDK can still come good like Leao, Tonali. Origi is a disaster! They should have got Kolo Muani instead.

it's serie A. Anyone who wants to spend in it will end up like juve or inter
Only way is to spend smart, but Maldini and Massara have made too many mistakes already

We could see signs of what was to come prior to the World Cup. Barely beat relegation fodder and our style of play was deteriorating fast. It was inevitable that we were not going to be able to keep grinding wins in that manner. It’s simply infeasible to snatch 90’ wins every week. We did what Roma did to us to a couple of teams this season. We were so happy that despite how we played we got those 3 points against Fiorentina.

It was only a matter of time before those signs would catch up to us and actually hurt us tangibly. That’s on Pioli for not changing anything.

Let's face it, the day Gazidis left the company everything got worse
:(
I was just thinking about this yesterday. He did bits for us and then he chose to dip when the closing concluded. He was the most competent person in the management. He knew something wasn’t right with Redbird and chose to bounce. Everyone in that sector will keep it professional and say that they simply want a different challenge but his departure and Maldini’s tenuous renewal showed us Redbird isn’t to be trusted.

I think CDK might start at the weekend I thought he looked ok against Lazio if that's possible with our performances
