i brought this up a few months ago. if they knew they couldn't afford a decent replacement, they should have extended with him. but apparently no backup of his quality is allowed to earn more than theo. except origi and dest of course. i know he often didn't look good against the berardis and lukakus but he was the captain, longest serving at the club, italian, serie a experienced, supposedly in his prime now. these are all factors you have to consider in a contract (extension) imo. maybe we have to bite the bullet sometimes. it’s not like we would be fucked for years with that contract. a reliable third option like romagnoli is hard to find. we should have at least extended one between him and kessie.
He was demanding way over his qualities. Because his childhood club was calling him.
Botman was opportunity that should't let go. It is the biggest Maldini mistake so far.

Raspadori while on loan ll cost them 35.
Anguisa 15.
Olivera 11.
Etc.

Over 100M but all players re contributing at least.
Our mercatos were trash. Tens of milions spent on players who dont play. Like do maldini and pioli ever talk about players or transfers? Seems no. Either way pioli s yes sir pussy.
Pioli is a pussy ,that is confermato .

I mean other than not scoring (maybe we try Rebic and Origi), the set up against Torino at least didn’t leak goals until we overextended
CDK hit the bar, and they fashioned some chances, but didn't put them away. It was the right plan for the ugly game that Torino wanted it to be.

We aren't even playing a 4231 anymore, it's been a 424 the last few games and when your attack is toothless, it doesn't work.

Inzaghi hasn't changed how Inter plays from last year, and Pioli knows how to counter them. It's about putting the right players in the right spots.

In the Coppa semis, first leg, 0-0, Pioli used a backup squad, but we were much better than them. Krunic was crucial there.

Against them in the 2nd leg, he went with more of a 1st team, and it was 3-0. Even if they disallowed our goal in typical shady ass fashion which would have put us at 2-1 and we just needed a tie, before we conceded the third.

Point being, Pioli has the tools, he has refused to use them. 4th place should not have been uncomfortable this year.

Agreed…Lazio have the second best defence in the league because of him and anything’s better than starting with Gabbia.

One could argue that the Inter match comes at a good moment as it presents a great opportunity. If there is one game where form doesn't matter it's a derby and we all know what happened last year upon defeating merda

That game was also played on the 5th of Feb

You have the audacity to make fun of me when you're being nostalgic over Romagnoli?

I think if we have Romagnoli or Acerbi we would have different options but in games like recent ones they'd be just getting frustrated and collecting bookings.

Pioli is afraid to try a more pragmatic set up. Maybe now that Scudetto chances are completely gone he might change his approach.

it was his last big contract. of course he wanted to get as much as possible.
the fossil acerbi earns 1,5mil at inter. romagnoli is 6 years younger and the better player

Napoli are playing at the top 4 for a long time now.
We got back after 8 years in CL.

So what are they waiting to fire Pioli? This is humiliation after humiliation every week.
Maybe they are waiting for Spurs to end this misery and then fire Pioli. I'm sick of him ,even last year I was criticizing him ,but he tricked me with scudetto.
Need to look for a lot of alternatives ,starting from the coach.
Who's the replacement brah

He's said before we only know how to attack, we can't sit back. I would admire that philosophy more if he had... like... intricate attacking play like Zeman. He doesn't.

He's been more pragmatic before, which is why I'm annoyed with him. He's being obtuse.

His half time subs and subs in general were... terrible. His starting line up. Everything really.

I cant even give the "hm, I see what the idea was there." And I love seeing silver linings.

I echo this.

Sacking Pioli and getting Abate or another Brocchi style caretaker is just back to Berlusconi's final days and those were awful.

Only get rid of Pioli for a top quality manager ready to come in instead. Let us not pretend that this is a CL winning squad, it is not bad by any means but when your backups are Tata, Dest etc, it is not great.

At least we have Isma back for the derby. Just wanna see some movement which will subsequently lead to completed passes. Tired of this long ball bs. Tonali has to step up. His passing has been off and he’s been getting the ball taken off of him and beaten on the dribble far too often. He’s playing like a soy boy. Where is the grinta and never say die attitude he used to possess?

i can live without romagnoli. it's just frustrating as hell that our main CB is stinking this season while the alternatives being much worse than romagnoli last season. gabbia is basically our third option because you can’t really count on kjaer anymore.

I can agree with this in terms of the flexibility.

Last year, we were looking shaky and poor defensively so played more defensively and ground out some 1-0 wins, these then moved into 3-0 wins and we won the title.

It does not seem like he wants to even attempt that. I am going to believe that he simply does not believe we're capable of it but it seems odd.

Let's be honest: everyone is waiting for the Derby as we continue to play nice with this cold war detente, everyone biding their time to use the result as the tinder box to revive positivity or to engulf ourselves in darkness.

You got me.

I don't even think it's likely we get rid of him even if we get blown out in the derby.

We would need an 8-0 loss or something for him to get fired from that, imo.

Tuchel is available option now. In the summer options are wide open . Conte, Gasperini also i would like to gamble on Zanetti from Empoli i like his football. Milan gambled in the past with Sacchi , Allegri. Look what is De Zerbi doing with Brighton.

I was just joking around.

Not sure Romagnoli would have helped today, since, yknow, it was Sassuolo and Berardi was there today.

I know how much you supported Romagnoli and his place in our team when we played them last year.

Thats really what bother me the most.
How do you know they're not trying?

I will be happy if there are no panic buys. Most clubs nowadays are more vary of the loan + option formula because it benefits the buying club too much. Buying a player that doesn't work out is a disaster for a club like us because we don't have so much money to move around. You get stuck with a contract and can't get rid of the player, worst example being Bakayoko or you'll have to sell with a loss like for example Piatek or Paqueta.

Exactly.

If we do fall out of Cl place then the safeguards that Elliot put in place in terms of spending would actually have paid off and save us from further financial issues down the line :proud:

not talking about today at all. wouldn’t make a single difference. but for the season in general, he would definitely be a more reliable option than our current options.

too many great players to list but if pushed all time favorite player: Maldini

Pioli and the players have a lot to answer for in the last couple of games - all of them they have been poor, top 4 should have been more or less straight forward - And still can be. The injuries of Mike has been a major factor but Milan's general team form has been poor recently. I hope Pioli will start playing certain players in roles and positions where they can contribute more playing their natural game. And a key factor the defence really needs to be tactically modified to accommodate butter fingers Tata in goal. At this point I wouldn't object to Pioli going with a five man defence and countering - grinding out 1-0 wins just to reclaim ground. At least until Milan have a reliable custodian between the posts - but even with Mike back the defence have to sharp, aware and not concede stupid goals because even with Mike there have been too many this year.

The thought process behind the mercato at least has to be questioned.

Kalulu filled in wonderfully but ultimately he was brought in as a RB. Now we are expect him to perform consistently (no longer just filling in) with no real viable back up.

It’s like because the stop gaps worked last season they believed they could keep doing them so they can make a meaningful investment for a big player?

Still has to be said that Pioli was originally hired as “try before you buy” kind of guy and we liked the initial performance. But in terms of incorporating new signings he’s always been iffy.

Implementing the strategy they did with the manager they chose to give an extension to? Has to be questioned a bit
