What has Ziyech achieved in his career that outclasses Rebic?
Rebic played way more top4 league football, Ziyech did well for Ajax but Chelase was his first club in a top league. Even if you compare their careers for their current clubs, which doesn't really impact salary much, Rebic was a lot better for us than Ziyech is for Chelsea.

Rebic and Ziyech have both managed to break in the high level tier of wingers but among that tier they aren't anything special and will be soon forgotten outside their home countries after they retire.

Since when has Milan needed a strong Serie A to perform in CL?
Since the class players all retired, banter era happened and then we are left with kids and a few names way past it to make a difference.

We had the best players at multiple positions who all had champion ability and mentality

Dont like him at all - seems more of false 9 that is close to being good but not really.
Riddle me another player that was available for under 5m who can play LW/AM/CF and would be a guarantee for 20 G/A a season. Especially in the static competition that is Serie A.

He would instantly be second best dribbler behind Leao and the most creative attacking passer in the team. And already used to playing 4-3-3/4-2-3-1.

But we'd rather bet on 40 year old strikers and ensue with our Leao & Inshallah tactics

I think we should give Leao a hard deadline by which he either renews or we ship him off. Ideally he should renew by mid-June latest. Because if he doesn't renew, we need to find a seller and then complete the sale. Then we have to use that money to buy his replacement as well as use it to plug some other areas in the squad that need fixing. Maldini and Massara can't fuck this up and let him leave on a free or cut-price deal.
Loosing players for free is what we do.
Just embrace the idea & follow Brk & Sam closely & you will be fine.

Our option is so insanely bad that a false 9 will be better than our real 9s & 10s.

But we cant really say what squad & mentality we are gonna get.
The CL DNA is squad related & not given for granted.
As it is we should return to the basics which is build a strong league team before we even consider playing the CL.
I truly thought we had turned the corner and were on the right path but seeing the absolute collapse this new year is shocking.
No matter where we finish this season, all of the young players that are expected to be here for this cycle need to show so much more in every match.

We have zero leverage to set a hard deadline
After the scudetto we had leverage. There was hype around him and we could've gotten 100m.

Now we are playing badly, Leao is basically free to go if he gets offered a better project or more money elsewhere and we are seemingly offering no perspective on improving the squad due to lack of money.
Management took a big risk by not selling him last summer after he didn't renew yet and it might turn out really ugly for us if he walks for free. Especially since keeping him another season didn't necessarily translate to a good ranking on the table or playing better football wise.

Imo since room for error in modern football is a lot smaller because of the importance of money for the arms race we tend to look too much on the table. When I talk to people who are approaching retirement or that are retired I always notice that football used to be a lot more event/match based, now it is much more season based. I think always thinking about the big picture is not helpful and rather stressful when it comes to enjoying football, it is much healthier to see the upcoming derby as a individual game first and not as a 6 pointer for top 4.
I started watching football when Lorenzo Buffon was Milan's goalie, and fell in love with Milan when they got Rivera from Alessandria, l'enfant prodige they called him, and also the golden boy. At that time nobody knew or cared how much a player made or who his agent was, if they even existed. No substitutions were allowed, if someone got injured they played short-handed. I think there was more parity in the sport and clubs like Bologna, Verona, Sampdoria, and Gigi Riva's Cagliari won scudettos, which is impossible today. The only thing I like better today is that teams don't all play at the same hour, which was 3 PM on Sundays, so I watch on average about four matches a week.

If you look up overrated in the dictionary a picture of Ziyech should pop up. I rarely seen a player more overrated, spent most of his career at Eredevisie and flopped at Chelsea but people act like he is Messi.

Imagine, we werent sure we could even get 100m at the start of summer, then all the deals went down and now Chelsea went on their mad spree and we are out in the cold.

They have to get a deal done - if they dont that cripples us (unless mercato budget increases) and we possibly go from a young inform Rafa to a frustrated / complacent one leaving for free being replaced by CDK and Zaniolo to shoulder the load.

But do people really think Ziyech is a misunderstood 100m player? I don't even dislike him per se, but he is a squad player on top level with the potential for an occasional great season. That's more than 99,99% of footballers achieve but doesn't take away from the fact that there is no indication that he doesn't slot firmly in that 3-4m wage, 30m fee tier.

What could possibly happen if we set a deadline? He's not the player he was last year and seems to have switched off when the team needed him of late. If he asks not to be called up like Zaniolo, he'll be in the stands and won't be able to hit the ground running at any club he might join next season, as he'll be rusty. If he underperforms on the pitch, it'll definitely affect his prospects of impressing any major club he's hoping to get into or getting the wage he's after at his new club. If we act quick, we'll be able to guard ourselves against a free transfer and make at least some decent money in the process.

rebic is a 5 million player right now if were lucky...even non injured he would be worth maybe 12 mill and thats a selling masterclasss
Ziyech around 30/40 in todays market...a young 22 year old ziyech wouldve costed in todays market if properly hyped 70/80 mill-ish to put things in perspective for you
Noone thinks hes 100 mill worth

I also don't agree we should've sold Leao last summer. We'd just won the Scudetto after 11 years and he was the reigning MVP. If he'd been his late twenties, this could've made sense. But we had every reason to believe he'd finally shown what he was capable of and would go on from strength to strength. This season has been a disappointment.

I agree but the part you are missing from your point is, you lock up his contract and dont let it linger on for the whole season.

We have seen this movie before
