It's irrational to your financially conscious ethos.

Maybe their plan was to spend big for a few years and then flip the club or ramp down and be more sensible before spending again on another cycle or going self sustaining but didn't want to pass their fair purchase price.

Your argument in the posts though make it look like you are just arguing for the establishment no matter what and at the moment the emperor has no clothes.
I’m still arguing for patience. If they still don’t spend in the summer then I’ll grab my pitchfork.

Investcorp couldn’t have spent that much without completely blowing up FFP. No amount of leeway or settlement agreement would have allowed them to soend 300-400m.

We also aren’t sure if the guy meant in one window or through an entire cycle of a couple of years. Spending around 100m per year will probably be where we settle once we get the 2021 Fy out of the FFP window, that’s in line with a 300m/400m budget overall if that’s what he meant.

Gotta go agree with brk, people give them shit all the time for arguing “they have the money but just decided to not spend it”

Well, then you can’t look at investicorp and see how they had money but decided to not spend it when it comes to acquiring the club but believe them when they say they will spend during a mercato.
There is a big difference between spending money on something you have and initially overpaying for something , no ?

Is FFP really a thing anymore? Chelsea just spent 650m in one window. And they don’t have Real/United level revenues

Considering how terrible he is, I’d assume Barca would have been happy to pay portion of his wage for him to go away,

Surprised we are paying all of it.
Our RB position in eats up about 15m in gross wages. It’s sickening

And then Calabria starts

Yes, but spending 300m is irrational, and if you’re irrational what’s another couple million to buy the club?

I don’t think it’s ever been confirmed that we’re paying Dests full salary. Seems weird if we are and I don’t think Maldini is ok loaning Dest for that much for a year.

Why are you talking about FFP when we saw the last fines weren't like 10 mill or so iirc (stand to be corrected)

Even if the the fine is a 100m that is cheaper than putting an extra 400m in Elliot's pocket in the purchase.

There are ways around FFP and you can always pay the fine.

Fair point.

Though my feelings about Investicorp is that there's no point to cry over spoiled milk and talk would have, could haves.

We are stuck with Red Bird and Gerry so it's in our best interest that they aren't frauds and just getting off to a slow start (brk and co) or that their goals aren't as lofty as they tried to claim rather rinse + repeat of Elliot's strategy until stadium is built and then trying to sell for a higher evaluation (me).

Maybe investicorp would have spent a lot, but it's just all Mirabelli type noise for us atm.

Same as what I was going for this summer, at least 100m worth of new players.

How will you get out of competition expulsion like what happened to us early in Elliott reign?

Calabria is a top player is one of the myths I will never understand. He's had a good run of games but has always been prone to brainfarts and idiotic clearances.

He might be since Dest was a deadline day panic loan after the injury of Florenzi..either way whatever we pay him is too much considering how painfully average he is

There are so many things wrong with this post..ill only comment the cb part

Thiaw 7mil fee, 1mil gross wages. Yearly amortization on a 5 yr contract = 2.4mil

Romagnoli FREE on 3.5 net = approx 7 mil gross. Yearly amortization on a 5 yr contract = 7mil

We will pay Thiaw his 5 year contract + transfer free as much as we would pay Romagnoli in 1.5 years.

can Thiaw do as good as Romagnoli? Im pretty sure he can..I even bet Berardi wouldnt make him eat grass.
Now why he doesnt get minutes..thats up to padre :)
Disagree...I like Thiaw and think that he has potential, however, Romagnoli is a Serie A proven defender and his importance at the back was severely underrated which we're only starting to realise now. Also, it's no coincidence that Lazio have the second best defence in the league. Therefore, we would've been better off renewing him for 2-3 seasons and using the 7m spent on Thiaw (who NEVER plays) to cover the first year's amortization.

In other words, Maldini has frittered away all of our money on players who DON'T play which is why we're struggling given all the injuries.

They chose that option instead of paying.

I think you are being obtuse now or these rules only apply to Milan and no other club.

FFP is the boogeyman of the poor.
It's like the luxury tax of the NBA, yea it's good to stay financially responsible but when you are close to championship contention, paying a little tax to get that edge is worth it.

Doesn't matter how we spin it, other than Juve, no other club's owner is willing to come close to paying these prices. Especially with most teams not even owning their stadium.

So in that sense, until we get more competitive, we won't really see owners who will be willing invest in us, just guys like these. We can sit and argue all day whether it's brokeness or they really have the money but won't spend it, the end result is the same.

Regarding the investicorp bit, wild made a good point regarding ownership. Well then if one insists on consistency and follows brk's line of thoughts, one would ask if they aren't even willing to "overpay" initially to own the team what makes us think they will be fine with paying the fines or suffering more financial consequences (if they opt out of European tournament) and risk their new signings turning to shit like Li? In other words, what makes us believe that they won't see investing in ways I listed above where they ignore FFP and inject 300-400m as "overpaying"?

imagine a 30meu mercato this summer (retaining Diaz included)

worst thing is that it may very well happen

Going into next season with
Messias/Saele RW
Ibra/Giroud/Origi CF (Ibra posting a picture of a lion on twitter during the summer telling us all that he still is the best)

life is good

Fraud Chinese did it like it was nothing.

Because we dont know what Elliot asked from them to begin with.
They are used to those type of practices in China. Just look at the shit show in Chinese football and their Super League

We had to suffer the consequences.

It's so annoying when we're in trouble and there's always the "I'm-a-better fan/cooler-than-you" types who try to grandstand about how above it all they are. Human nature I guess 🤷🏽‍♂️

If you are not genuinely concerned about our future at this point then you couldn't be that much emotionally invested and therefore that much of a fan.

its because i don't think we can afford him

"Messias/Saele RW"
You think Roma can afford to not sell him and keep letting his value rot on the bench?

They are making a stand but the realities is they need to get some value for him for FFP since their owners aren't about to ball out either. So they flexed their muscles now but comes summer, they won't have much leverage and will pay for this little flex in the form of even lower offers (there won't be desperate EPL relegation candidates willing to overpay for a mid-season injection in the summer to bail them out either).

The evidence is more on the side of ‘slow start’. Maldini signing on is the clearest sign. Winter market was weird. there’s a case to say why spend on Pioli if you might not end the season with him? As long as we get to 4th they can rebuild on their own terms in the summer. That’s why I’m giving them until then to see if they have any sort of ambition to really take us where we need to go.

There is so much unknown about the Maldini signing and the negotiation behind it that for me it cannot be the "clearest sign" of anything.

I agree with you regarding the caution around spending for a manager you don't see with you long term. I do see Redbird at least matching previous Elliot spendings and not the 50m window we saw last summer and the 350k one this winter.

However, I don't see them spending the necessary amount for us to be a big player in UCL in the timeframe you provided and I don't consider that necessary for me to see this period as successful. We can agree to disagree on this point :star:
