So why didn't he use that same system when confronted with a near-identical system to Conte's against Inter in the semi-final of the CL?
Because Maldini ana massara gave him a shit squad with no alternatives and Milan is very average team without leao and bennacer. They are 2 key players, only attacking force and only passing midfielder. No tactic in this world could beat inter with this squad with those missings

So just my two cents.

It really hurts to lose Paolo, he is Milan and will forever be my favourite player.
I'm hurt about the way he was fired, but I won't be like others here and start insulting everyone and everything. We don't know what's really been going on behind the scenes, so no use to be overreacting and acting like whiny idiots.

I'll wait how things will unfold and how the upcoming season will go before I fully judge these changes. I won't waste my energy on going fully ******ed now before we even know how this will work out in the long run.

Forza Milan sempre!

Who profits the most from M&M being sacked? The same little guy that found Maldini's TD work underwhelming and is now controlling the current narrative that Pioli was a factor in the dismissal. He even tried to endear himself with the fanbase during Leao's renewal. Without the little guy, it wouldn't have been possible.

Furlani and Moncada are the brain trust. We now have to put our full trust in both to raise the level of Milan further still. Cardinale won't be back in Milan anytime soon.

Geoffrey Moncada was not very listened to by Paolo Maldini every time he proposed names to reinforce the Milan squad. Now, the head of scouts of the Rossonera team will have more prominence in the signings. [ @AntoVitiello ]

I know Maldini just got fired and they're airing out the dirty laundry but I believe this

There was a significant difference between the players targetted early in the regime and those over the last 2 seasons

Didn’t he renew his contract? If he was not listened to, he could have taken a DS role somewhere else if he wanted

Pioli started Pobega against Juventus to great effect against their 352, without warning. Those were the sorts of tactical moves that made me have faith in Pioli.

His decision making in 2023 has run counter to the entirety of his tenure with Milan until that point.

I don't believe that he had a shit squad, especially since he wasn't just losing to Inter (who used the same setup in every game against us in 2023) but that he continuously struggled against bottom-half teams, which for me, makes the excuses for Pioli wear thin for me.

I hope that the old, innovative Pioli returns, for Milan's sake.

He hasn't renewed his contract in any capacity so far

I would assume they delayed it knowing something like this would happen unless they won the CL or something

soul in football has been eroded long ago and there are no sacred cows
My grandma believed calcio had been hopelessly corrupted by big money ... and that was back in the 80's. It has only gotten progressively worse since then. As background, she grew up in a small provincial town that won seven (7) scudetti (Vercelli). Her brother used to hang out with some of the players, no big deal. Something like that would never happen these days. It is all big money now.

We get to see Moncada the maestro this summer.

Do you think Adli was one of Maldini's choices or Moncada's?

Moncada starting his work from Tomorrow. I cant wait to see his first job done. Besides Kamada or Loftus
I'm kind of excited to see what Moncada does. If he can finally act on some of the transfer targets he's suggested that Milan has missed on the last few years then things should be fine.

I'm not excited to see Pioli coaching those talents though. Unless Pioli changes his tune with how he manages young talents, he'll likely be gone by next summer or even sooner if things go south during the season. Over the past few seasons we've seen Pioli only give young players a chance when it's the last resort and some have flourished. Even this season he benched Leao for a little stretch.

So when your best player, Leao, is injured, and then you lose another of your best players (Bennacer) within minutes of the first leg starting.... you use a more attack orientated system than one that is more cautious and has shown itself to be effective at countering the 352, which has consistently been a problem all season?

Pioli utilized a great solution against Juve in the first game we played, and then in the second one... he didn't use it.

These are the sorts of decisions that make me question the value of putting so much faith in Pioli.
I doubt we had the players to adapt to whatever formation/system that could counter Inter in super form. Either way, we had no threat up front without Leao - and given that Pioli had to prepare for a Champions League semi-final with Leao having a 50-50 chance to play w/ no alternatives is a testament to our awful recruitment in attack. The alternatives were Origi and Rebic to replace Leao, but ultimately the choice fell on Saelemaekers as he provides defensive cover for Theo's bombarding offensive runs.

In a Champions League semi-final, the fans want to see an attacking Milan - and when Leao is your only quick player and he's unavailable, you cannot legislate for that as a coach. That's on the management.

Yeah, this evening really bummed me out after managing to sail through the terrible couple of days unattached and fairly calm.

Firing Maldini was the cold hard call but doing it in 3 fucking lines as official communication is puke and rage inducing. Just ew, this cockroach has zero respect for the clubs history and tenure, and even if he wins 3 cls in a row I for one will always remember that. Unlike most here I better fucking hope he won't crash and burn since milan is always above all.

And then Curu, one of the only sane posters in this miserable loony bin decided to fuck off to greener pastures, making this place more of a cynical hellhole than it already was. This summer will be a nightmares of bored trolls fighting against milan fanatics, not sure if it's even worth keeping up with this place until first match day.

I guess God really gets the last laugh.

You see, that's where I disagree. I think the 343/352 that Pioli used against Tottenham was actually the answer against Inter. But he didn't use that.

Even with Leao available, that was probably the better choice in the first leg.

Moncada was in the process of renewing this year as his contract was expiring this summer. I'm sure he was made aware of this a while ago or he would've taken a bigger role elsewhere.

cmon we don't know the inner workings

but the late signings have been a far cry from the likes of Theo and Leao

even in terms of profile and characteristics, this club has taken a drastic step back

Again, we are going to return to glory with Moncada in charge--I'm all for it.

But I'm not even asking to be a dick, I'm genuinely asking what your hunch is: do you think Adli was a Maldini signing or a Moncada signing?

I think Maldini's downfall was airing dirty laundry in public on several occasions, the Pioli extension and being content coming off of a scudetto.

Franco Ordine, journalist of Il Giornale, explained: "The relationship is cold between Maldini and Pioli? Yes, from what I understand. Above all, I understand that there was a lively meeting between Pioli and Maldini regarding the use of the players who arrived during last summer market".

Of all the people, Maldini got burned by a nobody like Pioli.
We are not talking about player maldini. Pioli is a manager is more successful than maldini as a sporting director. I don’t think this is the situation but of somebody should be fired it should be the one who is more unsuccessful in his current job. It doesn’t matter if it is maldini , pele or my dad.

Italians are so emotional , Americans are more rational. They decide just regarding if he is successful or not. They thought transfer campaign was the main reason for this years failure. They couldn’t give a capable team with options to the manager and cardinale axed.

Maldini is great as a player but maldini as a sporting director should never be evaluated according to his past as a player. I don’t care if anyone in the world respects our sporting director or not. I only care about his performance. Evaluating maldini don’t think about his personality jus think about his performance in last year
