Theo and Leao were relative nobodies when they signed, I don't think it would have made a difference and the club is in a much strong position now![]()
Nobody knows but one thing that no one could doubt is if Paolo comes calling you don't just ignore it. Analytics only takes you so far, you think Leao Theo and Tonali all would have signed and renewed in the absence of Maldini?
Like many I didn't like how they've gone about their business so far. Until we see results I dont know why we should jump on the Redbird bandwagon, they've given no reason to, apart from piss off the majority if the fan base. Will reserve judgement in the meantime. If they do make meaningful signings and open their wallet I will gladly eat humble pie.
Thing is we've seen this story with American owners and other clubs. Don't for one second think Redbird actually care about winning as long as the balance sheets look good.
People are being a bit naive with this whole Maldini contacting players thing. You know he, just like Pioli, contacted Ndicka and got rejected right? Players care about money and having success so they can make more money, that's the truth. A legend of the sport calling you and telling you to join will not convince many. In fact, we sat here with this tactic and watched targets slip by going to stronger sporting projects
Let's look at Thuram. Do you think a coach contacting and saying something like "You know we play a press-hard and counter-heavy game, someone with your pace and stature would benefit greatly from that" is any less convincing than getting a call from Maldini? I really don't
Maldini's impact is felt in player relations once they are at the club, that much is obvious and will be missed. But to say a phone call from Maldini will make someone alter their lives and career is a bit much
