Congrats to Djokovic for breaking the slam record and for finally climbing the top of the ladder, for the first time he’s officially on top.

Well fucking done to him. Federer will always be my personal GOAT, my favourite, my idol for life, but Djokovic has essentially ended all debate. History will see him as the GOAT and rightfully so.

They’ve brought so much to tennis. When I was a teenager I use to hate Djokovic or Nadal, I’ve grown to respect and appreciate them so much in recent years.

After what happened in LC 22 during Federer’s retirement, my respect for both Djokovic and Nadal increased tenth-fold. I respect all 3 of them so much and the best thing about them in my opinion is the huge respect they have for each other.

Congrats to Djokovic once again, he really deserved this moment. Federer will be the one that transcended the sport and set the bar, but Djokovic will end up as the GOAT and I’ve made peace with that after Federer’s retirement.

I don't know when you guys started watching Tennis. But we're talking about who's GOAT here. The finals between Nadal and Federer are widely recognized as the best tennis the world has ever seen, this is not a controversial take. Djokovic wasn't part of that because he was irrelevant at the time, why shouldn't that be taken into consideration?

And yes, I think injuries is a valid argument if we're talking about GOATS. Nadal has more GS wins in less appearances, even with surfaces favoring hard surface players.

Djoko has stacked titles after Federer and Nadal exhausted their bodies playing each other for 10 years. With the best tennis the world has ever seen. Even with 3 majors being on hard surfaces, and a beaten body, Nadal still has better h2h in majors.

You can spin it the other way as well. You can say that Federer and Nadal won many of their grand slams in a time before there was Djokovic around to challenge them. Otherwise some those wins of theirs would have gone to Djokovic!

Rather than spinning stuff around, it's better to look at the solid numbers like total number of grand slams won, number of days at the number 1 positions,....etc...

Nadal’s clay record is absurd and probably the highest peak level tennis has ever seen. 14 RGs is insanity.

Djokovic has the actual numbers, best longevity and best body that have all sped him to remain physically good and healthy for such a long period of time. His dominance was spread out on a longer period than Federer or Nadal. That’s a big plus on him.

Federer domination in 2004-07 for 4 consecutive years is unheard of as well. It was possibly the highest peak period of domination I’ve seen a tennis player have. He set the bar insanely high during that period. So many consecutive records like GS finals, GS SFs etc etc.

On another hand, one can argue that Djokovic had the easiest competition because there was no potential ATG coming up from the newer generation until Alcaraz came on so he could really rack up more slams, especially since he’s the youngest of the big 3. Federer is like 6 years older and look the younger ATG will have the edge.

Federer had a head start but let’s be real, they played more times when they were in their 30s and as the older ATG, Federer was always going to be a at a disadvantage since age is a pretty critical factor in tennis as movement and speed is a pretty big factor.

Federer has 2 ATGs competing with him, Djokovic as the youngest ATG had no one else, which made it easier for him to rack up slams after 2018. Federer was the one set the bar and he was always the one defending the lead. And he defended it until 2022 which is surreal. In a hypothetical scenario where Federer and Djokovic swapped ages, I think Federer would have more slams. But I can’t prove that obviously.

With that said, history won’t see it that way. History will see Djokovic as the one with the most slams, the one with the best numbers. Hence, the GOAT. And I can live with that now.

I agree. I consider Nadal the greatest based on having played against the other 2 at their greatest, while consistently having massive injury issues. Also considering him being best on the toughest surface to play edges him ahead for me. Imagine if two grand slams were on clay.
