Pioli is a terrible coach for Musah. At such young age, playing so many different positions is not an easy task, and Musah although gets constant playing time, but he is not getting any sort of continuity in a certain position. It is visible on the pitch that sometimes he looks clueless, and doesn't know where to position himself tactically. Musah had couple of good games at the start, some bright moments and matches. But in my opinion, in the last month or so, his performance dropped significantly.

Reijnders-Musah-RLC as a trio is simply not working. Neither of the 3 players are a natural DM, all of them are best when played as a box-to-box player. In the beginning of the season, we played well with Krunic as DM, and after his injuries, when Adli emerged as a regista option. I hope with Bennacer back in the group, he can regain his match fitness quickly, and start owning that DM role. Musah should be rotating with RLC and Reijnders, not play simultaneously with them.

Also now that all of Leao, Okafor, Pulisic, Chukwueze are healthy, Pioli can stop with this Musah RW crap. Musah should only play as a box-to-box, simple as that. Let the kid develop in that role.

Musah's blessing and curse is his unrivalled dutility. I'm sure you could put him in goal instead of Maignan and be surprised to realise he's not that much of a downgrade. On top of that, making our line-up in the last few weeks has been about as difficult as sleeping with a blanket that's too short - if you pulled it anywhere to cover yourself up, you'd expose another spot. For example, if you moved Theo into central defence, you were missing the full-back. And so on and so forth.

Musah was just perfect at plugging all those holes. As a result, he played practically every game, which is great for a player as young as him, but at the same time bad for his development if he has to learn a new position every 30 minutes (!).

I made this point about Musah's development going in, he had a similar situation at Valencia where he kept getting moved around without getting to master one position.

I said at the start that I think his highest ceiling is as a defensive midfielder, but he isn't ready for it yet, but in the meantime the most ideal role for him is as a box to box player providing defensive support to a regista like Bennacer or Adli. Over time, I see him transitioning further back and eventually becoming a high end single pivot.

I grew up in an era where the best and players who wanted to be the best went above and beyond and that was celebrated.
And I know it isnt that far removed. Rafa isnt a teenager so he wouldve seen enough of the players that came before in all sports to know this.

At some point some things come down to the person - a coach can make things easier or harder but the person has to be responsible for their competency in moments.

If he wants experience or evidence of a "professional" with skills, Leao was lucky enough to be on the same national team as one and probably has Ronaldo's number.

I think Leao has all the skills but his laid back attitude and Milan's lack or stars around him combined with being coached by Pioli, adding in the fact Milan needs him more than he needs Milan, was/is the "perfect storm" as they say.

Leao COULD be twice tye player he is, that's not to say he isn't a great talent as is.

I think he and Milan are "comfortable" with the situation and it suits most parties.

I get the frustration and the celebration, we need to get a few more players that can deliver and take the spotlight of Leao a little though.

Pulisic is doing that, and it's actually a good thing... If Chuk and Okafor start producing regular end product, and Leao continues to regularly contribute 20+ G/A we good
