Yes of course they are better than Qatar, Iraq has always been a football giant in Asia. Now I have to make a ranking (not including Australia):

1. South Korea
2. Japan
3. Saudi Arabia
4. Iran
5. Iraq
6. North Korea

I can't make up the top 10 because many countries had golden eras but are crap today like Kuwait

Some nice ideas by the thai but the uzbek are more organized and can exploit errors, the goal was splendid.

I missed this match but thank you for the update. I think it would be good to post regular updates like this on the thread to keep track with progress in asian football.

BTW I saw a clip from an iraqi TV station where the host explained why the striker was booked / sent off and it was not because of the celebration or provocation, rather it was because he was extending his celebration even when the referee told him to return to the pitch before. The host said that the player acted irresponsibly and I think that is a good assessment on what happened and it makes the decision more reasonable. For the matter I think celebrations are stupid 90% of the time especially when they are pre planned as the one done by Jordan after the first goal.

Re: Aymen, yeah he first ran to the Iraqi fans and gestured eating Mansaf, one celebration then he went back to the pitch, sat down again and mimicked the Jordanian celebration. He overdid it in a tense situation while being on yellow. I somewhat agree, planned celebrations are a little pretentious.

Anyway, Mancini playing cautiously versus S. Korea, the saudis came close on a corner otherwise it's mostly SK with the initiative it seems. HT 0-0

I have some free time so I check out most of the matches, there are teams developing nicely from Asean and central asia, the competition has its charm. I just wish they'd merge west and east in continental competition (and my country not to suck haha).

You are talking at a club level right? I think the decision to divide the zones to East and west makes sense from a financial aspect because of the size of the continent but that comes at the expense of the technical development. They are following the NBA model although in the NBA everyone plays each other during the season. I think they could come up with something more creative, maybe to divide the continent into four zones and have the the best clubs meet each other in the second round, something like that.

I hate it when goalkeepers fake injuries to kill the momentum of the opponents and for some reason this is very common among Arabs, I don't know why they think it's such a smart idea, just focus and adapt to the intensity of the match.

Nervy game, Tadjikistan had a good run but they lacked the quality, some warning signs already appearing on Jordan's team as they couldn't control the game after the goal, a stronger team would punish them. I don't see them winning the next game vs Australia/SK.

So a little recap before I comment on Jordan-South korea

Iran beat Japan in a crazy game, Jahanbakhsh scored a penalty at the end of the match 2-1. Since the beginning Iran looked like the team to beat and they get Taremi back
Qatar beat Uzbekistan in the penalty shootout after 1-1 at FT.

Now for the Jordan- South Korea.

Perfect, absolutely perfect game from Jordan. They played on the counter and had the quality to exploit the mishaps and spaces left by korea's mid and defense, Altaamari and Yazan made it look easy, especially with Kim Min Jae's suspension.

On the other hand, Klinsmann was bad from the start, I think Son was playing more centrally and cut off by Jordan's low block and the korean team kept doing the exact same play, they became slightly better once Cho was subbed in. They looked sloppy, guess two games with extra times against KSA and Australia were too much.

Deserved for Jordan, they played without fear.

Felt like the Iranian team didn't handle the game well, they relied a bit too much on long balls

The final is 50/50, Jordan should play with confidence as they have the weapons to punish Qatar.

I'm a little sad as this generation of Iran is great, also this was likely Heung Min Son's last chance at a trophy with S.Korea but that's football I guess..

Yesterday Jordan officially qualified for the first time in its history to the World Cup Finals. A great historic moment for Jordanian football that has been growing exponentially over the last several years. It was also a personal dream of mine to witness such a moment. Hopefully the world will calm down by next year so we can enjoy this milestone and that Jordan gives a respectable showing at the tournament.

Uzbekistan is one of the strongest teams in Asia and they always do well at the youth levels. I think that they are better than UAE and Qatar who are 3rd and 4th in the group.

Iraq is in a bit of a mess, they can't settle on a good technical program, changing coaches frequently and so on. They still have an opportunity with the next round. Not sure how that will work.

I agree about Saudi Arabia, they messed up by opening to foreigners just after their good performance in the last world cup. They have plenty of talents and resources to do well but they keep self sabotaging their progress. This time, it's just that Japan and Australia were better than them but I think they will go through in the next round.
