Ball playing mids and really good holding mids are super expensive and rare right now. It’s kinda like the striker market a few seasons back. The rich teams stockpile them knowing they’re hard to find, and even a young player with no top experience instantly becomes like 50 mil. In the prem guys that haven’t even played in the CL go for like insane money, over 100 even. Wharton looks great and I’m sure some English club will pay crazy money for him.

Guys like Reijnders who are awesome but aren’t really tempo setting players are easier to find and don’t cost as much it seems. I think the players coming up now are pretty good in short spaces and athletic but they aren’t trained as often in pinging passes from different angles at long distances.

So what can a club without tons of money do? You can take gambles on younger less experienced players, who are still relatively expensive and may fail. You can try to find a lesser version, like parades or something, who has flaws in their game and might cause other issues on the field. Or you can turn to aging veterans and try to surround them with enough energy to make it work. I wonder if allegri and Tare are gonna aim to do this. Modric and xhaka were both super expensive players at one point but I think it can work in Italy if you’re smart around them. You’d have to sacrifice the intensity and pressing that is popular at a lot of the top clubs rn but I think people are slowly learning you don’t have to play like that to be successful(even though psg just showed a great example of how high you can reach in that style).
I think a part that goes overlooked about PSG is the unique circumstances they are in

I mean how many clubs have an average of ~80m per player and a decade+ of experimenting with different iterations to build the ultimate fantasy team? On top of that they play in a league where they can sleep walk through every league match because of the gap in resources and solely focus all energy on the CL

There isn’t a single club in the world who can follow this model

I agree with your points about Modric and Xhaka. I find it all a bit jarring though because these aren’t the traditional Allegri type players I was expecting

What do you consider as a traditional Allegri player?

3 DM banter era ball aside, Allegri seemed to always like a defensive profile to play 6 - which I believe Xhaka fits

When I think of Allegri I think of his prime Juve teams

So players like Pogba, Vidal, Marchisio, Khedira, etc

but I guess he and the sport have evolved and this is a different team

Oh no…. not that Stephanie cunt again.

Jashari‘d be a very strong signing. He doesn’t have that beta attitude like De Ketelaere. He has that Grinta.

With him and Modric we’ll have elite Passers for cracking the low block.

Jashari, Modric, Fofana, Xhaka, Bondo, Adli, Zeroli. Wouldn‘t mind that. Good mix but still a defensive beast missing.

And with patience and trust he became a star at Atalanta and justified his price tag..

Not sure if Atalanta fans agreed with you.

I mean, we payed somewhat like 35M plus bonuses for him. Atalanta gave us back 20M plus bonuses. He's had a meh first season. Then he started well this season until November, got injured and looked as lost and depressed as always ever since. He scored one miserable goal between November and his last match day in May.

I don't feel scammed by Atalanta TBH. I feel much more scammed by Brugge.
