Such a cheap way to look at artistry. Some people struggle for their art, cultivate their skills, grow, expand, and much more.
Some are curated puppets dancing around for our entertainment, not art.
Fuck Dua Lipa... For the record Avril isn't an artist, but she's fun and I have fond memories of her music.
Artistry is dying and people like Dua Lipa are helping it's slow walk into the grave.
Good post
I would call Avril a pop entertainer first and artist second, but she can idd play instruments like the guitar and the piano
If you look at the credits she's always been writer/co-writer on most of the tracks and for the most part has avoided the huge production teams with 7-8 writers on each track, she stuck to at most 3 writers including herself in most of her albums
There were country influences early on but she always was pop-punk with some other influences like metal and grunge
There was always a clear vision on her music, so in that sense I would call her an artist or a creator because she had a distinct and unique style that stood out
Nothing wrong with staying in a box, don't fix what isn't broken, guess what heavy metal bands do after decades? They play heavy metal
If anything having a clear vision is a strength not a weakness
Btw I have no problem with pure singers who are pure interpreters, they have always been around like Celine Dion, Whitney Houston etc.
Dua's voice is not my thing at all because if I wanted to hear a deep voice like that I would just listen to a male singer, I prefer girlier somewhat higher voices on female singers
But she's just another generic voice out there, nothing special or memorable, Albanians just rave on about her because she made it abroad
That aside, what I don't like her about the most is how much they push her even though she's not really that popular relatively to other artists if you look at the sales
And it feels like they are using her as a political tool but I haven't looked too much into it
I also don't get why and how she even managed to collaborate with Andrea Bocelli or Ibrahim Tatlises of all people
These collab makes no sense + she must have some crazy connections to get Andrea Bocelli to collab with her
It feels like she or her management are trying to tick every box and appeal to anyone they can
There is no vision whatsoever, a lot of her stuff is just mediocre covers
She is so manufactured to the point where Britney Spears in the 90s feels authentic
