Rivera Unleashed: "Americans Don't Understand Football. They Even Let Maldini Go"

Gianni Rivera was a torrent of words during an interview this morning with Libero, as he spoke about Italian football, starting with Milan: "Why have they never considered me? Maybe I was a nuisance because I never held back the words my brain was thinking. And don’t talk to me about the American-owned Milan. Americans still don’t know much about football. They even let Paolo Maldini go."

Do you still see yourself in today’s football?
"Not at all. Now money rules everything, and players are forced into these grueling schedules—but they don’t rebel. In my time, together with Mazzola, Bulgarelli, and other colleagues, we founded the players’ union precisely to protect players and guarantee rights they didn’t have before."

Have the top officials at the FIGC always bothered you?
"Yes, because I’m not ‘easily controlled,’ I’ve always been kept on the sidelines. I only had federal roles when Abete was president. Gravina? The only time I tried to contact him to see if I could be useful to the national team, he didn’t even respond."

Milan, Leão Only Leaves for an Indecent Offer. Rafa Is Central to Allegri's Project

For weeks there has been talk of Bayern Munich’s interest in Rafael Leão, but so far no real or concrete offers have arrived at Casa Milan. And if the situation stays this way until the end of the transfer window, no one at the Rossoneri headquarters would be upset. This was reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, which explains that the Portuguese winger is considered absolutely central to Massimiliano Allegri’s new tactical project.

INDECENT OFFER – For Milan, Leão is absolutely untouchable, but it’s clear that if a nine-figure offer were to arrive, the scenario could change. However, it would take an "indecent proposal" of €100 million or more — a figure that, at the moment, no club seems willing to put on the table, not even Bayern Munich. As things stand, everything suggests that his future remains at Milan, where he is seen as a fundamental piece of the project by both the management and Allegri. The coach from Livorno is convinced he can help Leão rediscover his best form and finally make the definitive leap in quality in his career.

RAFA AND MILAN – For his part, the Portuguese winger has never hidden the fact that he feels good at Milan — a club with which he has a special bond, as he shared in an interview with L'Officielmagazine: “I’ve always followed them, even before they signed me: Milan is one of the most important clubs in the world and wearing this jersey is a dream. My best match? Sassuolo-Milan 0–3 in 2021–22 (on the final day — he provided three assists and Pioli’s side won the Scudetto, ed.). The greatest players I’ve played with? I’ll name two: Zlatan Ibrahimović and Cristiano Ronaldo.” The former is now a Milan executive, and the latter is the captain of Portugal, with whom Leão recently won the Nations League — the only bright spot in an otherwise disappointing season with Milan (excluding the Italian Super Cup).

lol nice try

I noticed Sam called you out recently for deploying the "Nuh uh you are..."

I am complaining about ppl attacking Leao personally. To jump on me as taking it personally is disingenuous..... because then I can repeat the (retarded) cycle and say "well Smurf why are you taking it personally that I'm taking it personally" and on and on...

Try that with someone else
Is it really surprising? Maldini has been shit on by so many here. No player is off limits seemingly

Fazzini is a promising Italian player, 22, that some mentioned here as a possible target for us, not as a starter but as a good option off the bench if we want to add Italians. Italy Under 21 starter, with Empoli relegated to Serie B his sale was inevitable, and Fiorentina just picked him up for 10 million plus bonuses.

Born in Massa, Tuscany, it probably makes sense, local boy moves from Empoli to Florence, same region, but what gets me is the 10 million which is not a lot but had we been involved the asking price would have been at least 15.

Allegri loves Leoni but Parma probably wants to keep him one more season betting on his value going up if he continues to get better. At some point 20 million seemed enough, (TM values him at 18), but now it's up to 25 and because of Inter, Juventus, and some EPL interest, (Brighton got Coppola for 11), might rise to 30.

Gazzetta writes of a 15 million offer plus Colombo, whose loan to Empoli has expired after scoring 6 goals in Serie A. I doubt Parma would accept the offer so we either have to propose a different player or put up the cash.
Comozzo would be next in line but is rated way below Leoni and lost his starting job at Fiorentina after a good start. We don't do well in bidding wars so have no idea what our last offer would be, maybe 25 plus bonuses if we really believe the player is special.

Based on current rumours

In: out:

Leoni musah
Modric jovic
Xhaka abraham
Guerra (?) Thiaw
New LB theo
New RB terracciano
Saelemaekers emerson
New striker (vlahovic?) Chukwueze

Might not manifest exactly this way, but realistically I see an upgrade. Not a HUGE upgrade but an overall improvement still.
With a proper coach Allegri, the team cohesion is more important, we need to become a well oiled machine like inter

Ac Milan still not fond of italians youngsters, look the way we pulled out of the race for RIcci to bring old and average player such Xhaka

Nail on the head brother.

Every year we can budget what we expect our revenues to be. Sometimes you get unexpected windfall (eq. We win Scudetto instead of just making top 4, or we budgeted for UCL R16s, but we actually made it to the Semi's) and sometimes shit hits the fan like it did this year (Budgeted for top 4, ended up out of Europe). Nobody could predict the future.

Merda maybe actually budgeted for a Triplete, but ended up with shit results across the board, that would hurt their plans.

We can plan and budget all we want at the start of the year, how the year ends is up to the players and God.

That's why budgets tend to be more often than not, more conservative. Plan for the worst and hope for a nice surprise.

There is only 1 club who can budget and realistically challenge a treble and its PSG. They have it wrapped by december every year and then can focus and rest for CL.

Not even Real, Bayern, Barca , City and Liverpool expect a treble lol.

Do you really think American investment fund Oaktree is sad puppy eyes , because they lost some trophies in a record revenue season? How naive are you fella. They are laughing and drinking champagne rn! Inter cashed on big this season despite falling short on every trophy at the last finish lines, even losing cups and finals will bring cash in. Record UCL earnings, record match day gate receipts and they have settled the bond with private funding for another 5 years with some cheap interest.

Oaktree will be happy to see Inter getting QF's or semis as long it will bring money in. They are americans after all.

The worst part is missing all that UEFA money for us. Just watching how Juve and Inter swim in the money this year too while we had to sell Tijani . He played 1 game and City fans were mocking and told to pay another 55 millions to Milan lol.

Safe to say Leao is staying then. Let’s see if Allegri can get the most out of him. If we play Allegri ball on the counter then that’s best for leao. If we get Modric Xhaka etc leaos finishing numbers should go up

Maybe it’s time to put the myth that Calabria did well vs Kvara because he had help from Krunic to bed. He did well vs him most of the time even on 1 vs 1.

Literally in the clip provided you see Kjaer and Krunic cut Kvaras angle so he could only go one way to allow Calabria to commit.

If they have to put in a tackle for it to be considered help, then lots of RBs including Calabria did well against Leao 1v1
