Reason can be two-fold.I don't know man. I don't buy that story. Seems like a reach from media to me.
Business is business. I think clubs are just trying to be smart these days. The playing field has changed and everything is out in the media. With that, they all use it to their advantage. Strasbourg's revenue in 2024 (from Capplogy, so not sure how accurate, but I'll roll with it) is 65m. Getting an offer for one of their players that's 1/3rd of their annual revenue would have been accepted in a heartbeat a few years ago. Now, they want more. Because they know someone (especially in the EPL) will pay up. I don't think it has anything to do with Mike and Chelsea. They simply know they can milk every penny through the media. In the end, they probably don't need the money if they are not accepting 18m for this guy. His biggest accomplishment so far in his career, is being PSG's Doue's brother. And for sure, that plays a part in the price, as ridiculous as that sounds.
They want to keep the player, but like you said everyone has a price.
Strasborgs price is 35M if anyone wants to make them part with their RB.
It could be about Mike, it could NOT be about him, but the baseline is that they want to keep their player unless a massive offer comes in.
I'd say Milan do the same thing, but it seems buying Tiji for 14M and selling for 4 times his price as base (not inclusive of bonuses) is still not enough to satisfy the crowd.
