Stacked full of fodder tho.

Yeah we definitely need more. I count 3 maybe 4 we can rely on there atm
Modric & Rabiot definitely arent one,
then Jashari & Ricci needs a playing time so they dont become a fodder.
Comotto also needs to play. Fofana is an odd case, he can be good but mostly are just dysfunctional.

All of those for 2 spots, is too much.

also if there’s any CM i’d like to pursue, its Kessie

You know we don't have decent wingers, a 4-3-3 is more suitable, Tonali-Barrela-Pissili in the middle with Raspadori and Zaniolo behind Esposito, we have more qualities in the middle than in the wings.
Why not 3412 or 4312

Play with a CAM. Italy always had great CAMs. Recreate the magic. But who can play CAM currently?
I would say maybe Zaniolo.

I knew you'd come out of nowhere defending Argentina.

Diego's suspension shell shocked Argentina? Is that an excuse we are going to go with? First, Diego in 94 wasn't the same Diego. He had already gone back to Argentina to finish his career. Nobody expected anything crazy from him in that tournament anyway. Put it this way....it's not like Messi now, who even at this age and playing his regular football in America, he still is top.

This is a clip from 18th May 1994. 1 month before USA 94

He may not have been the same Diego. But he was still levels above everyone else.

I would take him over Pirlo and also if they really want to commit to younger players Baldini should be the man. Younger players would include Palestra, Scalvini, Calafiori, Ahanor, Bernasconi, Leoni, Liberali, Esposito, Pisilli, Zaniolo, (27), and others not necessarily all Under 21. Watching these other countries we need more speedy players overall.

It would probably be considered too risky by Malago` & Co. but a coach known for using and improving young players would be good. Mancini would be better than Conte at it but our choices are pretty limited for now.

They should also implement a more offensive system and not park the bus once they the get lead conceding two thirds of the pitch like Allegri does. 4-2-3-1 would be how I would play as we're weak at traditional winger positions.
None of these Italian players strike far into opponent’s hearts though.

Yamal had such a great game that he contributed 0 g/a, as well as a shit tournament

'0 brains and football IQ' still stands

On the other hand, how did your GOAT Mbappe do, or non Europeans in general?

bruh yamal will win ballondor unless Messi does it again. He is pretty smart for a young football player.

Don’t get in feels because he waved Palestine flag. Anyway Morocco is your buddy.

Accept him as a world class player or you will be bitter for 9-10 years. I gave up football becuase of Messi and cr7.

Messi juice goat please win.

Lamal was intelligent in the way he won that penalty. Despite starting this tournament recovering from injury, he has still managed to make a difference when it has counted most. Against Belgium he did well also.

At 16(!!!), he played an insanely good Euro2024. Morata at 32, twice Lamal’s age, was sobbing as the final whistle of that Euro2024 Final loomed because he knew that was going to be the pinnacle of his own international career. Lamal meanwhile assisted the opening goal of that game.

I don’t think any of that happens unless you’re precocious, intelligent. Off the field, he has had some issues I know, but on it he has been the man.

If you're someone who judges players on trophies etc then he's ahead of both messi and cr7 at the same age.

Screenshot_20260715_040437_Chrome.jpg

In terms of goals

At 19 he has something like 50 in 150 games

Messi had to wait past his 21st birthday to reach 50 goals

Thats 2 whole years less, playing in a much weaker team than what either messi or cr7 had

He's only going to get better.

Lol, had no idea about Palestine flag. Who cares about a place that doesn't exist anyway.

Point being, Barca prodigies are dime a dozen. Bojan, puig, enso fati. All were promised to be next thing and yet la masia hasn't produced it since Messi. High rise quick fall, their knees usually don't hold up unless you give them the Messi growth hormones.
The next 'world class' is Olise in my book.
If we're talking about 'football IQ', look at Pedri at age 21. Already performing consistently for Barca and Spain.

Cubarsi is 19 as well ffs. Despite not being fast or bulky has shown awareness and understanding of potential threats by France. Has contained Mbappe, Barcola and Duoe, who crushed previous defences.

Yamal, who was impressive in CL as well, has dribbling ability, speed, and technique. Hasn't shown anything that relates to understanding football at a high level, and time will tell if he will.

Yamal, let me repeat, has had a disappointing WC before this match, a sentiment which I believe dear Massaro also shared and forgot, and hasn't exactly scored a brace/hattrick today. Was lucky to have senior citizen Digne in front of him to abuse, and a mediocre Lacroix to deal with, because given that Saliba would've been on the pitch, France's defence wouldn't look like Sunday league level.

There's a reason why, after the 15' minute mark, all threats and goal situations came from France's left side, and it isn't because Yamal suddenly unlocked his 'limitless' brain capacity and became WC mid-match.

I don’t watch Barca games so you might be right but whenever I saw him in euro or Barca highlights I see him doing intelligent things.

I have tremendous patience for young players till they physically and mentally develops as long as they put in effort and epic stupidity isn’t there.

For example I love fik but his stupidity will not change in Milan

All I am saying he is baby in footballing terms and considered number 1 option for two heavyweight team(that means 12 months an year) and I have seen him play good intelligent ball.

Personally I don’t give a fuck about him or Barca as long as England doesn’t win.

I thought Gila will play on the right?
I’m not sure honestly. Apparently he played in the center during the training match yesterday.

Personally I want our best ball playing defender in the center as he’s the regista of the system.

Today’s game showed the difference a coach can make.

Spain look super well drilled, versus France look like Allegri’s Milan but with better talent.

I’d like to see an England - Spain final.

Either England wins after a while (deservedly so), or they become the Juve of national teams and bottle a third consecutive final in 6 years

Since the rules have changed to really penalize defending, like if you look at the tackles from 2006 (I'm thinking of this tackle from Stam on Nedved) do you think this has allowed for the Spanish-style of play to flourish?

I think refs have allowed more tackles and more contact this World Cup (except when it suits them) then they have in previous tournaments, but still, we're a far cry from defenders having the leeway that even existed in the mid-2000's.

Has that allowed for Spain's style to become as dominant as it is? Before the 2000's, Spain had never really won anything, and it's not like this intricate passing style emerged out of nowhere.

The other question is: has Italy's downturn been in-part to their ultimate calling-card, their specialty, being removed from the game? I am not saying that this is the "silver bullet" answer, they simply do not produce attacking talent anymore, but do you think that these two forces (the changing of rules for defense which enables more intricate play) can be at least partial explanatory factors for the trajectory of Italy and Spain?

When it comes to the failure of Italy's attacking production line, could it be that wingers were never really Italy's calling-card, offensively? They made strikers and 10's, but they didn't really produce wingers--or am I off here?

I dunno, I'm just thinking out loud, and wondering if my theories have any merit or maybe what elements I'm not seeing.
I also think that current strict refereeing standards have contributed a lot to longevity of the players (along with modern medicine and training practices).
If such protection was there in the 90's, Van Basten probably would have had atleast another 3 ballondors in his career.

France winning “only” 1 World Cup with this generation is hard to believe, especially when you consider some of the teams they lost to and the relative weakness of the teams overall in the EUROs particularly.

Deschamps is clearly a very strong man manager, because he stabilized a national team that had basically been couping before he arrived. I mean they team fucking revolted in back to back tournaments if I remember correctly, so he deserves credit for the stability he brought.

But France will look back on this generation like Germany in the 2010s and Italy between 1994 and 2006 and wonder… How is that all we won?

Of course, France isn’t done yet and Zidane or whoever may come in and win a tournament or two, but these French teams have been the most talented teams of the century outside of Spain and Brazil 2002 IMO.

All that said, Spain is spectacular. We are all living in a Spanish century and I hate every fucking second of it.

Yea, it's wild. But this sort of stuff happens more often than we notice. Argentina for example continuously had (probably) the most talented squads for years throughout the 90s and 00s....and yet, they ended up winning a WC in '22 with probably their least talented squad of the last 30 years.
