Maggio is just so god damn good going forward, Juve have played a three man defence and Criscito is have played as LWB as well. Three man midfield of Pirlo-De Rossi- Marchissio. Upfront Cassano and Balotelli. Looks pretty tasty

He has been doing pretty well in Italy's 4-man defense as well, but I get your point. He's unparalleled in the wingback role.

3-5-2 would make some sense for Italy, yes. De Rossi can even drop back when required, and help out the CBs.
