As much as we want him to stay, he's of not much use to us if he's missing games regularly due to injury. He can't turn himself into some kind of security blanket simply because we, the fans, don't want to see him go.

Just wait and see.
I'm sure Paolo will play regular this season and he will retire with a title or more.
I'm afraid of the day he will retire and I know this day my heart will be broken.

word on the playground is that Maldini is fully fit for this season, his injury issue has been absolved and the only reason he didnt play vs. redstar was because he wasnt match fit. same with kaladze.

Maldini forever

It's good to have Maldini back on the pitch. When Milan got their first penalty not to enter CL, he said that something was being stolen from him. I already cried for him. I can bear all the penalties for Milan. Even if we have to play in Serie B. But how could he end up his career like that?? I want him to raise the cup again.... Forza Maldini

I just want to tell all the people who believe Maldini should retire this season are all WRONG!

Before Maldini picked up his injury he was doing better than ever and owning shit on the pitch. And now that he has had that knee operation he is going to be even better. That man has a work ethic and iron will that is unmatched by anyone.

So all you haters out there better shutup because Maldini is going to be a regular again this season and you better believe it!

Agree on everything you said!! Many people think that Maldini can't carry on anymore and should retire but I need to remind them that in 2005 when we lost to Liverpool in the final, he was aproximately 37 and he was ranked by FiFa as the ninth best player in the world, and don't forget that he's a defender. If he regains his physical fitness, he will be back to the old Maldini knowing that his technical ability didn't drop at his old age. Just like Marco Azzuri said his is really hardworking and I believe that he can regain his fitness and work back to the Maldini he was before his injury.

Forza Maldini!!!! :star:

i do not doubt Maldini's or Costacurta's ability... but age has caught up with them... better to retire while your name is still reputable than when you realize you're pass it... every single player has to retire someday...
Yes, you are right.
For example, my first time to watch Milan's game was Milan 1-6 lost Juventus in 1996-97 season, in that game, Baresi had 3 mistakes  ! At that time, i didn't know Milan's history, i was thinking Baresi was a bad defenders... However, after i learned more about Milan, i knew Baresi is one of the best defenders, but his performance in that season was really sucks ! His mental attributes was still very high, but his physical attributes and technicol attributes became worse because of the age and his body didn't allow him played so well. Back to Maldini, i am afraid if he still play more for Milaan, he will repeat Baresi's tragedy again:cry: . So i think Maldini and Billy should retire...otherwise it will be very sad that we will see some sucks attackers can just used their speed and acceleration to win Maldini and Billy.

I think that Maldini's number should be "protected"/ not given to anyone untill one of his sons is ready to play for milan ??
would be odd to see someone else in shirt number 3!!!

anyone agree??:D

It is already protected. No one, except Maldinis, will ever wear that number in Milan.

Galliani said years ago that Milan will retire the number 3 jersey when Paolo retire but they will keep it in stock until Christian has grown up. :proud: :proud: :proud:
I remember this statement as it were yesterday. ;)

I absolutely agree with Galliani.
Just imagine in 10 years there will be again a Maldini wearing the magic number 3. :proud:

Maldini asked Milan instead of retiring his no.3 for Milan to suspended till when Christian makes his debut.

Paolo Maldini’s four-month injury nightmare is over after he announced he’ll be ready for the Serie A opener against Lazio.

“I really think I’m ready for the start of the season, both from a physical and psychological stand-point,” he told Milan Channel.

The Rossoneri captain played 45 minutes in their Trofeo TIM victory, beating both Inter and Juventus to take the summer friendly tournament.

“It’s true it wasn’t an entire match, but the knee reacted well and it was an important test on a particularly rough pitch. Despite all of that, there was no swelling. I believe I’m ready to return now.”

There were fears last season’s persistent injury concerns would force the 38-year-old to retire, but he’s fired up for his 23rd Serie A campaign and the tough opener against Lazio on September 10.

“I don’t think the order of the fixture list can change the course of a championship all that much. We have an eight-point penalty and must therefore try to win every single game. Whether we’re facing more prestigious or easier sides is irrelevant.”

Milan were the least affected by the Calciopoli scandal, as Fiorentina, Lazio and Reggina had stronger penalties, while Juventus were demoted and stripped of two Serie A titles.

“Italian football has changed a great deal and naturally the most obvious difference is seeing Juventus in Serie B. As a sportsman, I feel it’s right to pay for certain mistakes, but at the same time I hope to see Juve back in Serie A from next season. Italian football needs this club and we respect them as opponents.”

The San Siro giants had originally seen their Champions League status removed as a result of the scandal, but they entered through the preliminary round and were paired in Group H with AEK Athens, Anderlecht and Lille.

“It’s clear that we were luckier in the draw than in previous years, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be easier,” warned Maldini.

“History has shown us that it’s often more difficult to win a group with less prestigious sides than when facing bigger clubs. In Europe nowadays every team can put you under pressure and so we must be extremely careful.”

PAOLO MALDINI SPEAKS TO MILAN CHANNEL

Ready for Lazio: ’I played 45 minutes in the TIM Trophy and it was positive. It was a good test as the pitch was difficult. Despite all of that, there was no swelling. I really think I’m ready for the start of the season, both from a physical and psychological stand-point.’

Winning all the games: ’The fixture list isn’t that different from other seasons. We have penalty points so we have to win all the games. We have to face the top sides and lesser sides in the same way.’

Changes in Italian football: Italian football has changed a great deal and naturally the most obvious difference is seeing Juventus in Serie B. As a sportsman, I feel it’s right to pay for certain mistakes, but at the same time I hope to see Juve back in Serie A from next season. History has shown us that it’s often more difficult to win a group with less prestigious sides than when facing bigger clubs. In Europe nowadays every team can put you under pressure and so we must be extremely careful.’

New arrival Ricardo Oliveira: ’My first impression that he is a great talent, at the moment I simply hardly know him.’
