When you calm down and think about it, I can't help but feel like we fans are a bit impatient. We talking about a complete restructuring and overhaul of a system, appointing a Technical Director in the mold of Rangnick who's under contract, appointing a CEO and a Coach. I mean this isn't something you do in a week or two. Not every slight is race related but the system I'm referencing is so entrenched that we like or condone all those archetypes and only accept the others ethnic groups in one aspect (organised crime). If the story is portrayed about a minority then it always had a white sympathetic lead.

It was so bad that it helped spawn DEI which obviously went way overboard in correcting and has now been wiped out so any gains have been minimal.

Tangentially - there is this guy on IG doing a theme about Asians being not shown as winners in football tournaments. Its funny and I dont know if its edited but he said it was a conspiracy posed to him so he checked it out and every time they show players going for their medals (winner or runner-up) or lifting the trophy when they get to a person that is Asian the camera does a wide crowd shot. The only footage he found was when Son lifted the trophy because he was captain and that is the first lift and thus had to be captured

Combined with how they fired Allegri, Furlani, and Moncada or how publicly they courted Iraola (in particular), Poch, Jaissle, and others in a seemingly scattershot way: it looks like they don't know what they're doing. Maybe Calvelli has done things in a way that is normal, or even, in a breathtakingly professional way by the standards of the industry? The problem is that their previous record prevents them from getting credit for that--and that's assuming the best case scenario for them.

They have earned the skepticism, they have earned the poisonous reception their choices get, and they have shown incompetence in new ways every season. The worst part is that some of the worst and most absurd sounding rumors about them have turned out to be true.

They can quiet fans down with some transfers, with the allure of a new appointment, that gives people hope. Glasner, Rangnick, etc are but temporary salves to open wounds.

Firing Furlani, or buying a bunch of players after selling Tonali, throwing unpopular players to the wolves through leaks, these also buy them time.

But they do not enjoy the benefit-of-the-doubt because they've failed the last few years. They waffled on Lopetegui, hired Fonseca, fired Fonseca clumsily, hired Conceicao at a terrible time, spent hundreds of millions on new players and the vast majority of them have failed, all while telling all of Italy that they don't understand how to be successful.

If we start seeing Gerry lifting CL trophies and holding new Milan kits with a Scudetto badge on them, then this period will be a quaint anecdote akin to Sir Alex's first few seasons with Man Utd--but until that point, they have earned every bit of ire and incredulity from the fans.

Yes, winning is all that matters, but when it comes to raising the profile of a league, if one team wins over and over again, it stunts the growth of that league, and subsequently it stunts the growth of Bayern. PSG is state-backed, none of its revenues are organic, Ligue 1 could collapse and they'd be fine.

The Bundesliga should be a much bigger league than it is. It has great stadiums, amazing fans, top-tier production, lots of attack but there is little jeopardy. Everyone expects Bayern to win.

There's more to it than just competition though, I think you need stars to bring attention to your games, and the transfer fees is part-and-parcel to attracting eyeballs to your league.

But you also need rivalries. The NBA was on the downswing until Magic and Bird came into the NBA--the subtext (to put it lightly) of those rivalries mixed with the teams they played for led to a massive spike in interest in the NBA which Jordan came in and exploded even further.

Rivalries, though, is what fuels any sport. Women's basketball was supercharged with similar dynamics to the NBA with Magic and Bird, with Clark and Reese. Reese isn't at the same level as Clark, otherwise, they would have a massive hit, but they needed that.

I agree with you completely, the way to raise the profile of Milan is in the CL, that's why PSG is growing, more than having stars, or big transfer fees, or any of that. If Marseille, Lyon, and Lille started spending money like that, and winning in Europe? Ligue 1 would grow. Any league would.

Milan needs to win to expand the brand, but absent that, it needs to be in the CL at the very least, which Redbird have failed twice-in-a-row.

We need the league to be competitive

Market the league. No matter what anyone says, I have seen more than enough, serie a is the most physical league. Highest contact when it comes to upper body duels. Serie a has to market their brand in such a way.

We need our competitors to be very strong however they must always be a tier below us. City dominated the league for what? 6 seasons straight? People still tuned in.

Rivalries are important and yes buying top players. Popular players. Popular and world class especially. You need to have both.

Nobody tunes in to watch psg in their domestic league. They need rivalries in their league competition. The top teams must be able to poach the elite stars.
EPL is succeeded cause of the combination of everything mentioned above. They have storied rivalries. Most top teams have stars. The league is very competitive. They play attractive football and they perform well in Europe.
