I've strongly advocated and defended Kamada and RLC in the last few weeks while it appeared that most people were rather unhappy. Now that they may not come, Maldini is the best SD out there and nearly unfailable...

Before that, CDK and Origi were bad moves, we should have listened more to Moncada because he would have brought us Muani and Enzo, and yet now that he's about to be appointed DS, we're suddenly questioning if he even knows how to negotiate with players and questioning if Milan even has appeal if Maldini isn't the one picking up the phone. No shit, there's some real borderline behavior in here

I honestly can't tell for now where I stand. Obviously I'm not calm. I've always been part of the "stay with what you know"-club. That would be Maldini. But the worst that can happen is us stalling again like last summer and then winter, and Moncada SD doesn't seem the worst idea I've ever heared TBH, so there's my straw of hope I guess.

What's really surprising is the fact that Maldini didn't walk away for financial reasons but that Cardinale fired him before they could even start discussing the economic boundaries of this mercato session. And with Pioli asking for reinforcements while actually being allowed to stay, that's another straw of hope for me.

But yeah, I didn't need all of this for sure. Turmoils are always big risks. Sometime they bring you the turnaround like firing Boban and promoting Maldini did. But that's not a given. Let's see.

Love for Maldini aside , if what we read is correct & that Moncada was behind all those players then I will choose him over Maldini.

a lot of the players moncada apparently scouted that we were linked with didnt end up here because they either couldnt be convinced by the project or we wouldnt fork over enough money.

i doubt moncada is more convincing than maldini when talking to players and i also doubt he will have the courage to go to the owner and ask for more money knowing that's what got maldini fired

No it didn’t. Thiaw has become a fine player, obviously Botman was great in England but center backs are still not really our problem. And before people say “thiaw didn’t play half the season” yeah well, we were still in the title race for that half of the season.

If you only think in terms of who’s better Botman or CDK then yeah. But that’s the wrong way to look. We really did need more help in the attack this season, more than what Botman would have brought. The real issue is that CDK failed.

This really blows, Maldini is a powerful symbol and he will be missed more than they think, on multiple levels. I was also more in the boat of “I think the team downgraded more than Pioli fucked up” but unlike a lot of people here, I also can look past that bad 2022 summer and see his work as a whole. All clubs have bad windows and you can’t hit on every signing(believe it or not) but no doubt they hit on most of what they did, building a competitive and winning team that quickly from scratch is almost impossible today. I also think Maldini and Massara would have made up for it this summer.

I will say it sounds like it might not be an ambition thing but just a power thing. My suspicion is that they had a lot of back and forth during the negotiations last summer over autonomy, we heard Maldini didn’t like having to go through Gazidis. Gerry knew he couldn’t fire Maldini right off the bat so gave in. They meet today and Gerry says “you got your way and the team got worse, you have to split decisions now.” Maldini says no and well…yeah.

I think that’s the most likely thing that happened. But it will suck and it’s going to hurt Milan being an attractive destination. Also if Pioli left too it would be full disaster you guys have to realize that.

Yep and Botman was very solid but Schar was actually better and helped him out a lot. Saw a lot of Newcastle this year.

So there’s 2 obvious options here, and we need to wait to hear from Maldini or Cardinale (whoever speaks first)

1. Maldini argued with them because they didn’t want to spend money. And he left/they fired him however it went down

2. They fired him because he kinda failed his mercato last year
