Vini wasn't instant, Rodrygo still a bit part player, Reiner - hasn't even played for them.

Different money level so it's easy for them.
Vinicius was bought as most talented brasilian that year. That is what I'm saying . Milan can't afford to have disaster transfer window ,especially when we just started to have continuity in Champion League. I feel sorry for Maldini ,but i will always choose Milan first. We lost soul, and right now we are no different then PSG ,City or Newcastle except we are much poorer.
Fuck it, let's see what will happen. If we start playing like last year ,and start wining trophies ,this will be forgotten quickly.

Why surprise you unpleasantly when you think they are morons ?
Its on par of what you think of them.
I still had any hope for them. I know they are stupid, but I didn't know the extend. It's obviously infinite

Remember when #PositivityForce were twerking for Gerry? :ibraugh:

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

But seriously, it's hilarious. Certain posters were telling us a year ago about all the positives of American owners and their involvement with the Yankees. Now the same posters are trying hard to justify this sacking.

We need a well written message from @ELKey to reunite (and then we divide between negativity, positivity and realistic) the troops.

Im a bit scared. Even Genny is acting out of character.

This place might turn from a place of intelligence and reasoning into a cocos nest.

That's a bit where I stand too. Translation:

Good thing it was Cardinale who sent Maldini away.... It sounds like a crazy statement, but it contains a reflection that I want to share with you, I'll explain right away. If it had been Paolo who resigned, I would be even more worried today. I would ask myself, what now? Right after that I would ask myself what prompted him to do so, as well as the even more alarming question of "does he know something that we don't know yet?" Come to think of it, that would be an even more disturbing picture than what we are witnessing today. The fact that the choice, as unpopular and burdening as it is, was made by the ownership, which voluntarily renounces a convenient " shield" of red and black DNA, suggests that it has been properly preparated. I struggle to read anything else into it; it would be improvisational, which RedBird is not.

I'm leaning towards this also. It would have been disastrous if it was Maldini that walked away. It means that he's disappointed with the plan and wants nothing to do with it. I really think this was the plan all along and Gerry just delayed it a year because it wasn't the right time when he got the keys last summer. Maldini was probably always resistant to full bore moneyball (for good reason I think). We don't know that for sure, but based on his hints to the media he was always asking for more investment and a higher caliber of players targeted. In terms of moneyball, Thiaw at 8m is a lot better than Botman at 35m+. CDK was an exception and he's probably being hit with that as a justification for why he's getting fired. I think everyone in the scouting and analytics team was 100% behind CDK, but Maldini is at fault for overpaying. That's a valid critique.

But for Gerry to voluntarily fire Maldini, that's a huge move. It implies that he trusts his plan and his way forward. He bought the team for 1.2b and needs to build a stadium and keep the team relevant in order to not lose his investment. We're not going to turn into Udinese or Atalanta. I don't think we'll start selling our stars for the highest bidder.

What matters to me now is how to deal with our superstars. Leao, Maignan and Theo need to be reassured. I think a good summer mercato will go a long way to reassuring them. I don't think Gerry doesn't want to spend, he just wants to spend wisely. Moncada wanted Enzo, who still would have cost around 30m+ overall. Not nothing. We can still target those sorts of players and elevate the team and not spend crazy money. I can see the appeal of going full analytics and scouting with Zelus and Moncada, and having Maldini at the head of that operation knowing he was never fully on board with the extreme vision, it's not a healthy relationship. There will always be friction. Origi, Florenzi and a few other moves seem more like gut moves by Maldini and Massara than data driven moves. Gerry wants everyone towing the line and for the least amount of friction. Maldini represented unnecessary friction and this summer, and a day after the season ended, was the best time to let go of him.

All I ask from whoever is taking over is that we don’t even SPEAK to players about personal terms until we have agreed on a transfer fee with their clubs.

Let’s try and avoid another Maldini and…
CDK
Faivre
Simakan
Zaniolo
Olmo
Szoboszlai
Onana
Onyedika
Chalobah
Ziyech
Loftus-Cheek
Torreira
Saint-Maximin

…situation please.

Look at Perez in Real Madrid. He doesn't give a shit about this things. No attachment from him. Casillas, Raul, Guti, Ronaldo, Ramos, Zidane, Marcelo, gone, just like that. And we all know who were Raul or Casillas at that time. Also same thing with Robben, Di Maria, Bale, Ozil, Sneijder, Makalele, Higuain, now with Benzema or Hazard. You came, you served, you go. No place for emotions.

Thats why Real is the biggest club in the world

You know he gets the money from the royal family?

Without Huan Carlos, Real Madrid would just be a Valladolid.

I was agreeing with you.

No club is immune from a bad window but I agree that last summer was atrocious. I however placed blame all across the board.

And yes if we win we will move on from this quickly but do understand that any negative moment is also going to be compounded.

Yeah, it feels wrong doing that to a club legend with Maldinis track record and pedigree. It really does. But I don't know if there was much of an alternative TBH. The first fact is Maldini didn't expect to be sacked. He couldn't read the writings on the wall. The second fact is that the decision had obviously been taken way before yesterday. Weeks, if not even months. Letting Maldini run the show through half the mercato and conclude more deals that weren't accorded with Redbird was out of question (from Redbirds POV). However distracting the team with such a bomb before the season had ended wasn't an alternative neither, needless to explain. So the only date to end the relationship was probably now, the day after the season officially concluded.

Could the sacking be handled more smoothly? More transitional? It really depends on where Maldini stood. Do you think he'd accepted to basically be a dead man walking, with everyone knowing he's only here to save face, but with no managerial powers at all? I don't think so. And it's also beneath Maldini.

Maldini isn't a player anymore. He's become an important manager in a business that doesn't allow personal sentiments. "It's not personal, it's just business", they say in hollywood movies, and I guess they're right. I guess some business decisions are just hurtful and there's no way to sugarcoat them or to make them less painfull by dragging them - en contraire. But the road from here to where this new Milan wants to go needs to be clarified now. Not in a week or two. The narrative is already getting wild (no, not you @Wild). Players and fans are probably already riling up. Clock is ticking. The PR mess was probably unavoidable, but now it needs to be tamed. We, the fans, but also the players and all dependants deserve it.
They needed him to close the Leao deal. It would have been disastrous if Maldini was fired (or if he knew he was leaving at the end of the season). Getting the core of team signed up to 2026 at least was huge.

I see a lot of people blaming individual transfer mistakes as some sort of root cause

I completely disagree

Maldini negotiated with Gerry for a month last summer and only renewed for 2 years, it was never going to be a long-term arrangement as the fundamental gap in philosophy is heavy

The failed mercato and season only accelerated the change

AC Milan fan and investor Riccardo Silva believes that the club ‘have a dream team of executives’ in Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada.

It may be a coping mechanism but the more I think about it, the more I think it is all for the good. Yeah, yeah, I know I change my opinion every 2 hours

Maldini was always a tough character to handle. There's a reason why it took Milan owners 10 years to bring him back to the club after he retired. He refused numerous times the role of talisman like Zanetti and merda. He always wanted to be the big boss despite having 0 (literally) experience. Logically it led to different problems with the properly and other people involved - Leonardo, Boban, Gazidis, Cardinale. Probably a lot of tension with Moncada as well. In the end he finally got what he always wanted and delivered an awful mercato which as it seems was not discussed with Pioli at all. I've put 99% of the blame on the baldie, but these interviews lately show different pictures. Yes, Maldini didn't have a lot of money on his disposal, but him and Massara dropped a real stinker. Origi and Dest were obvious flops. A huge part of the commoders were against these moves. Messias for nearly 6 m is an awful deal. On top of that we (of all teams in the world) broke the Belgian league outgoing transfer record by a huge margin. And to make it even worse, the guy made one of the biggest flops in the history. In the end they spend a total of 55 m and the only player that actually had any impact was a kid from Germany who was probably scouted by... Moncada. Maldini and Massara had a difficult task - fact. They flopped hard - fact.

If his name wasn't Paolo Maldini, but Massimiliano Mirabelli we would've been celebrating right now. Losing Maldini is bad for image of the club, but to be honest, he never proved to be a genius director. He was adding value and credibility to the club, but it's not like he was delivering some exceptional acquisitions. He actually signed a lot of donkies. What's more he passed on numerous gems that were up for grabs for free/pocket money (Alvarez, Caicedo, Kone, Enzo, Muani (there are 2 versions what happened with Kolo). Yes, I know we can't grab them all, but all these were needed at Milan. We're not talking about luxury signings. Anyone of the mentioned was walking straight into our line up or at least was getting a big role in the rotation. All of them left their clubs for a combined sum below the money we spent on CDK. Let that sink in.

Another important thing is that such changes are clearly well planned. If the Americans know one thing about sports it is how to make money. Does not necessarily mean that we will be a selling club. Players like the ones mentioned above would've elevated the team a lot and it would've led to more prize money, more points in Serie A, even more fans, and yes, a few sales eventually. It's inevitable, but it doesn't mean that we are going to be Dortmund. Actually Dortmund will likely wipe the floor with us, but that's another conversation.
Obviously they did not accept Maldini as the right person for the job. They would've sacked him last season, but accepted another year just because they were the new owners (who hadn't even finished the deal yet at that time). Once they settled, they did the logical thing from their POV. The fact that they renewed Maldini and Massara only for 2 years last summer speaks a lot.

Having said that, I really don't like that Maldini is gone, but I have zero control in the situation, so I am done stressing.
One more thing - don't underestimate the relations with Toulouse. This has scary potential. Our very own club that is going to play in EL and we will always have first dibs on their players. Just like Leipzig got Sesko and Szobo for pocket money from Salzburg. And a good place to dump our half-decent players or flop in hope that they bounce back or just youngsters who need a season out on loan.

This thing alone makes the new plan so much better than the traditional approach.
