remember a few seasons ago when we couldn't beat high press teams and padre kept getting 'exposed'?

imo it's much more about personnel than tactics. our team doesn't have enough weapons to unlock deep blocks on a regular basis.
quite the opposite..
if during past years we said it about liverpool and any quality opposition that we came across then sure, personnel over tactics 100%. you can't beat high press with a slow and untalented squad.
but who exactly plays low block? napoli sure doesn't, neither does many cl top level teams. you don't need quality personnel to beat cremonese and spezia, come on.
is giroud not 1.93 meters? so he can be good addition in the opposition box. but catapulting balls and leaving him with 2 cb's on him is a joke. can salad & messias cross? they can't, so no need to play in a formation that is 50-50 dependant on RW and LW. vranckxxx is a good option for a body in the midfield/dm department, haven't utilized him at all. adli is a given. brahim is quick paced and can dribble, and also has shown the odd brilliance of a defence-cutting through pass but is susceptible to pressing, yet being put in a trequartista position where he has to manage the midfield. imagine leao there, nullifying his pace.
maybe a 4-4-2 with giroud/origi and CDK if your wings are shit and the kid needs a chaperone since he chokes under pressure? just an idea.
you adapt according to the squad given you, that's what other serie a coaches do at least. inzaghi is a great example on how to utilize the squad of starters/ reserves. his bench consists of fodders people here will demand maldini's head for if they were here. Mkhitaryan? 34 year old player who's more of a mercenary than anything, and yet he was a good hakan replacement. gosesns who gives florenzi a run for his money regarding days under medical treatment. di marco has improved his attacking capabilities immensely (who thought of him last year, let alone thought he was one of inter's most dangerous attackers?). hakan is another story entirely, actually changed positions in midfield than previous teams and got better.
pioli has demonstrated his tactical inaptitude for more than once this season and a hungrier more creative coach will learn how to beat low block teams even with the current players
