Not sure what you're really getting at here, if Paolo signed players without the consultation of Pioli last year and Furlani deems that a mistake, it makes sense to have a more integrated approach.

I don't think they're "setting Pioli up" for anything other than to do as well as humanly possible. With the swiftness they axed our number one legend yesterday, I can't for a moment fathom why they'd stick with Pioli if they don't think he's good enough given the right tools.

If Pioli fails to deliver he will be replaced, but I don't think there's any plan in place meant to sabotage him.

Not sabotage him. They're working in the way they want to work and feel is the best. That's clear. But the messaging seems weird to me, why promote Pioli like this so publicly when they know a vast majority of the fanbase is angry at him also. Seems to me they're doing that (the messaging) on purpose to give themselves an excuse if they stumble, "hey Pioli picked the wrong players not us!".

I'm still mad and i'm still angry at Pioli so I guess i'm just lashing out.

One of the first things Berlusconi did as Milan owner was firing Liedholm who was a Milan legend as a player and as a coach and replaced him with an unknown Parma coach and i think it turned out pretty well

Personally, and I may be in the minority on this, I think putting most of the responsibility on the manager and allowing him to have a big input on transfers is the correct way to run a club.

Whether Pioli is the right man to manage the club is a separate discussion. And I would say no.

Pioli reportedly asked Maldini and Massara for nine additions to the squad to add quality and depth to the side and a number of these have been confirmed thus far. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Simon Kjaer, Alexis Saelemaekers and Brahim Diaz have been confirmed. Sandro Tonali is expected to be closed in the coming week. So that’s five out of the nine done.

Yeah, but that's kind of the same thing. Maldini basically saying my way or the highway. I mean I agree with him that it was the right approach, but if Gerry doesn't agree then there's really no way out. We're going to try to moneyball our way to glory now, with Milan at the top of a multi-club pyramid. They're looking likely to revamp the youth sector, maybe get a B team and then use the Toulouse connection the same way RB use Leipzig and Salzburg.

In reality, he expected to continue even the day before being fired
The reasons he got fired:
a) poor results
b) disastrous transfers last summer
c) just rumor, but looks like he didn't listen much to Moncada and Pioli regarding transfers (if true, this is completely incompatible with what red bird want)
d) starting drama to get full control over transfers last summer. And since he stayed, I assume he got it, but wasn't able to deliver results

I think you all give Pioli to much cred, he's in no way shape or form involved in the sacking of Paolo.

oh wait, one thing, he managed to suck when trusted on. Now if you're in the conspiracy mood, you could say that he was living on the edge by being shit on the pitch, yet make it to CL to keep his job.

Jokes aside, Pioli would lose the whole squad if he stabbed Paolo. No chance.

Of course Pioli didn’t directly get involved in the sacking of Maldini. He wasn’t even part of that meeting where it happened.

However, it’s very possible that Maldini politely confronted Pioli on his tactics after the derbies defeats. In fact Maldini publicly questioned his use of 3ATB during our slump.

Pioli stood his ground and probably told him that he wasn’t backed adequately in the summer and had no autonomy in it so it wasn’t entirely his fault. It would explain his comments in the PC where he wanted more ‘smart’ players and I wouldn’t be surprised if he wants more involvement in it.

So there was a disagreement here, the owners also knew about it and Maldini wanted Pioli reevaluated due to his failures this season. Owners disagreed and felt that Pioli should be more involved in the market which could explains why he’s getting more power to pick his players right now based on reports. Maldini maybe didn’t entirely agree with this.

Owners also felt that Pioli is easier to deal with than Maldini so they preferred him to stay, as Maldini is more difficult to deal with since he’s more demanding. Then there is also other disagreements with how the club is run and Maldini got the sack. Pioli was just one of those disagreements as per se.

Of course Pioli didn’t snake him or said, I don’t want to work with Maldini or Massara and stuff, he was questioned, stood his ground but I’m sure he was still willing to work with M&M for a better season.

The owners just had other ideas.

There probably wasn’t any bad blood at all and it’s likely Pioli was open to working with M&M still despite their disagreements with the makers which was definitely there given that Pioli didn’t play Maldini’s signings much. In the CL matches of Napoli and Inter, he gave CDK a grand total of 0 minutes.

So I do think Pioli indirectly played a part in their sacking even if it was unintentional. Such things happen.
