for a fairer and proper assessment, you should be looking with two different perspectives when considering Nkunku:

1) A- Pre-injury Nkunku and B- Post-injury Nkunku
This is the comparison you're making and there is a clear difference in performance before/after injury. He had two long termish injuries, one in 22/23 and one in 23/24

2) A- Bundesliga Nkunku and B- EPL Nkunku
Unfortunately for us, the injury he had and the switch to EPL happened in the same season


There is a clear drop in performance and whether that was due to a) the injury or b) moving outside the bundesliga to a team where he's not the main main. I assume your expectation (from your post) is that you expect Nkunku to return to his normal levels... however what if the good form he had was only due to playing in Bundesliga with their sub-par defences?

his cumulative stats since joining Chelsea:
23/24: 542 mins, 3g 0a (1 goal every 181 mins), games missed due to injury: 48 (!!)

stats never tell you the entire story but they give you an idea.. all i see here is someone who's stats have dropped significantly from their best season (21/22)... our scouting & management team believes the drop is justified and that we can turn him around, so we gambled on him with 40m

I believe the "Bundesliga tax" argument isn't fair. If it was really just about weak defending, then every striker in Germany or Spain (or even Netherlands, Belgium or France) would be posting dream numbers. But they don’t. The ones who shine are more often than not the ones with genuine quality (even if it doesn't always translate 1:1 into a new team, league or country), and Nkunku at Leipzig was exactly that.

The guy had brutal bad luck IMO. Two injuries at the worst possible moments on top of landing in a Chelsea side that was an absolute circus back then. And just when he’s trying to find rhythm, another generational talent like Cole Palmer explodes out of nowhere on his exact position. Things really went against him.

When I talk about Nkunku as a potential Ballon d’Or player, I obviously mean the Leipzig version before the injuries and chaos. Whether we’ll ever see that level again is the big question, agreed. are Reijnders and Pulisic leaders? lol. I think last season would suggest this team has no leadership and I find them shoehorning Mike as the leader bizarre given that

its pretty dumb to suggest Leao hasn't spent time to improve, he has been inconsistent lately but obv he has improved since his time at the club

I don't need to put myself in place of anyone, once Ibra was off the pitch his influence died. When he was on the field, the team was strong. When he was off, they fell apart. Another reason why I don't respect Pioli as a coach, he failed to hold that group steady when Ibra wasn't around

Trying to praise Pioli about overcoming all these things and then shitting on Leao in the same post is one of my favorite things here given the only reason he has any sort of reputation is purely on Leao, the Scudetto and CL runs don't happen if not for him catching fire

I'm not comparing him to Vini, but you ask anyone who routinely watched Vini last season he was pretty bad. He will have those moments where he puts up numbers but because of the hot and cold nature of the role his overall play was poor. People speak with pure vitriol about Leao's last two seasons yet his numbers are pretty good for a winger, he has those moments even tho his overall play has struggled

Obviously he will never be the classic CF, but imo hes pretty tapped out as a winger. He could go up a bit but truly for him to reach another level he needs to add a different dynamic to his game. I don't know why you try to discredit Allegri, his style is purely pragmatic and his resume speaks for itself. He has seen plenty of players reach a different level in his tenure
