When individual players are doing badly, it's hard to determine if it's the player, the manager, or other factors (tactics, injuries, fatigue, etc).

But when the whole team looks bad, when the team is failing, that's on the manager.

Pioli has shuffled around players, but hasn't changed anything. He didn't lose to Lazio 1-0 or 2-0, they got blasted. Inter? Blasted. Like... teams are playing us on the break, and it's so easy for them, why not make that strategy harder?

Even his adjustments against Sassuolo were stupid. Wtf did he put out? What was that? Just throw strikers on there?

I'm amazed at how stupid Pioli has been during this stretch. I didn’t think he'd be this stupid today, but he found a new way to amaze me with how stupid he was.

Gabbia on the left? I'm... I have no words for how shitty a job Pioli is doing right now.
Pioli not only plays a suicidal 424, he also asks one of the 2 mids (Tonali/Pobega) to make suicidal late runs into the box.

We literally have no vertical depth. There are the 2 CBs and then 6-7 players in line with each other in the box. No wonder there’s no buildup to speak of.

A sane coach would realize that and make the team more conservative (ala some form of a 433) but Pioli does the opposite and removes a between the lines player and dumps on another striker, making the problem even worse.

He’s a professional coach so obviously knows a lot more than us, but it’s shocking how he’s making such basic mistakes

I’d understand if Pioli doesn’t want to use the new signings if the players to replace was a Modric/Kroos/Busquets/Pique kind of legacy, but the players are Saele/Messias/Diaz/Rebic. You rather destroys the morale of your new signings who have potential to keep these clowns?

And try to bail you out when you know they’re simply not good enough? That’s why I think Pioli needs to go. He’s terrible at phasing in the new signings. He’s playing the same system that worked last year when our profile of players changed. Kessie LEFT Ffs.

This is why I’m officially Pioli out now. Yesterday was the last straw for me. He won’t change. He’ll keep trusting his average favourites over talented new signings and destroying their morale. Subbing CDK at first half was the worst thing he ever did.

He might chance tactics, but he won’t dare go against his favourite set of players and he will destroy the new signings like CDK to achieve that. There was zero reason to sub CDK off yesterday when Rebic was stinking up the pitch.

Kess is more important than both Tona & Ben.
Care to explain how loosing & never replacing your most important midfielder isnt a biggie ?
Losing Kessie is important and we never replaced him. I’m not (and never did) deny that. Just saying that our problems right now are structural and mental and replacing players won’t do much.

Truth will come out ,these loses with ,3,4,5 goals in a row are not normal for club like Milan.
The truth is clear: the team suddenly lost its confidence after Roma and then instead of playing it safe and securing the defense, Pioli decided to keep playing our crazy system and push players forward. Then we concede early and lose more confidence and the solution is to attack even more. Repeat.

It’s insanity.

Just pack the midfield with 442 and let’s survive relegation until end of season.
442 with the players we got (unless you mean an actual LM on the left and not Leao) would basically be the same as what we’re playing now.

We need three men in midfield and to keep Leao up and not depend on him to track back.

4-3-1-2? Silvio is that you?

3 man midfield was always going to be the answer in this moment. We can’t counterpress, and being caught out with only 2 midfielders was way too dangerous.

Pioli and the players have a lot to answer for in the last couple of games - all of them they have been poor, top 4 should have been more or less straight forward - And still can be. The injuries of Mike has been a major factor but Milan's general team form has been poor recently. I hope Pioli will start playing certain players in roles and positions where they can contribute more playing their natural game. And a key factor the defence really needs to be tactically modified to accommodate butter fingers Tata in goal. At this point I wouldn't object to Pioli going with a five man defence and countering - grinding out 1-0 wins just to reclaim ground. At least until Milan have a reliable custodian between the posts - but even with Mike back the defence have to sharp, aware and not concede stupid goals because even with Mike there have been too many this year.
I think changing the system to a low block or counterattack is the wrong way to go. We were doing great with the way we used to play. We don’t need to throw out the baby with the bath water. Most of the goals we conceded were of two types: counterattacks and set pieces.

We’re trying to counterpress when we lose the ball because we commit so many players forward that we usually have only the two center backs and a midfielder behind the ball. We HAVE to counterpress as that’s the only way to maintain pressure and not concede counterattacks. We’re also not cynical enough to foul and stop counterattacks. We used to be VERY good at counterpressing, at least by Serie A standards. Our PPDA is consistently the lowest in the league.

What’s broken is that our counterpress has suddenly become shit. Giroud was always a non entity here and he was never supposed to be our starting forward. Leao was to blame for a lot of the initial moves that resulted in goals, either by losing the ball and not regaining it, or not tracking the runners like Marusic on the break. We used to protect Leao a lot better before to avoid this. This was Kessie’s job.

Another thing that’s broken is that Brahim, no matter how much he improved this season, is not covering space and cutting out passing lanes like Krunic (or Kessie) when they played AM last season. A lot of our effective pressing happened because we were so good at closing down that dangerous central space that we forced teams out wide and we could handle it better there. Now, teams slice through our press straight down the middle. It’s so easy. CDK can’t play this role. We NEED a physical player like Krunic or Vranckx or whoever in AM otherwise the whole system breaks down. If we don’t have anyone like that in that role, then change system. Don’t force Brahim or CDK to do it and expect the same results.

I think this is finally the realization that’s dawned on Pioli. We can’t play the same way. So either we play Krunic or Vranckx as the AM and sacrifice Brahim/CDK, or stop playing so crazy attacking and commit fewer players forward and play a safer 433 with better coverage when we lose the ball.

The only reason why we were blowing teams away last season was because we believed in ourselves. We believed that we could throw 7 players forward and still get the ball in a few seconds when we lose it, not caring that Tomori was pressing all the way into their box to fill in during the counterpress. It was magical, but it depended on absolute unity and confidence.

That confidence was eroded gradually after the Napoli loss (which was one of the best games we played in months). It then got worse and worse as we let in shit goals with Tata. Now confidence is at an absolute low after it got shattered in the end against Roma (a game where we seemed to have finally regained some confidence).

The only way we can play the way we used to is to regain that unity and confidence. The only way we can do that at this point is to win some games and get clean sheets. The only way to do that is to sacrifice something and play it safe, then slowly get back to playing crazy once we’re confident and have Maignan back in goal.

It sucks to be this bad after winning the title, and to discover that our system is so brittle and that it depends entirely on mental superiority. That’s something I wasn’t expecting, it’s shocking how quickly it unraveled once we stopped believing in ourselves. This is on Pioli as he should have understood that playing his system at that point was making it worse. Hopefully there is a way back once we rebuild our confidence. We lost the coppa, the super coppa and the league in a month. That’s terrible. Getting 4th place is crucial and it would be disastrous on many levels if we can’t make it.

I’m still not too worried about it as I think once we get our shit together we’ll string a few wins and then start to feel the same as before again. I really hope this is the bottom. Even if we don’t beat Inter, I think what needs to happen is to see some kind of change in mentality, that we’re looking for balance first and not to win at all costs. It’s that ‘winning at all costs’ mentality that fucked us up. Our squad is too young, too thin and too injured to shoulder that mental burden.

Tbh anyone can press with any body (griezman top presser @ atletico and la liga for example) its just that its badly coached
10 needs technical player (not many teams play with a 10 for obvious reasons) + presser
krunic or kessie there sounds silly no top team ever played a purely physical player at 10 ever

From the coach till staff and even lawyers like someone pointed out...all is cheap mode
Who is gonna taech them to press ...pioli wont and our coaching team is ex fiorentina...probably fodder

If we go to a 4-3-1-2. Pioli should just get sacked on the spot. The AM position is the most useless position we have and should be sacrificed completely not reaffirmed. We rely too much on our wingers as well to switch to that formation. Unless he has plans in which it is a complete change. But I don’t trust Pioli at all.

Pioli bias towards new signings is just painful to watch
Rebic, Salad, Gabbia, Pobega keep getting minutes while they are shit

Last night charles get 1st start but immediately replace, while he keep Rebic and salad on the pitch

Replacing the AM was the right move, we needed to play a midfielder, but he replaced the AM and put on another attacker! We were playing 424, with crazy high fullbacks, against a team that was openly playing a counterattacking strategy against us. It was a crazy, unnecessary risk.

Pioli can't let go of Giroud. He's addicted to him. He scores goals, so I can understand the high he gets from playing him, but he HAS to see how unfortunately he's the nucleus of our broken system at this point...

Giroud should be the plan B, when we need a goal and we want to cross aimlessly. He should NEVER be a plan A. We can't run with him, we can't press and our counterpress is a joke. We have to start with Rebic, Origi or CDK up front. Even if we play 433, we'll have the same sort of press if we play Giroud in a 4231, he's that bad at pressing.

I want u guys to take a look with me at something that made me question several things in life...

So this donkey Gabbia...take a look at the beautiful attack sassuole starts @2.24
First from the pov of Kalulu...looks concentrated..follows his marker closely all the way till the goal happens

Now we go to the pov of Donkey Gabbia...mans marking 3 players + 1 ghost
I think the poor boy suffered a whiplash from that whole turn of events...broke his neck in several places

But lets not single Gabbia out...most of the team looks clueless what to do most of the time...especially tonali

Vranckx looked good in C.Italia vs Torino. Reminded me of Kucka

We should follow the steps of Sinisa's Milan. To me the last one really decent, because at that time Calshio had great players

So we could play in that way

4-4-2

Calabria Kjaer Tomori Theo
Bennacer Vranckx Tonali Dest
Giroud Leao

Cant even completely blame him for looking like headless chicken there cause of our "midfield" but looked funny
Doubt Tonali was even aware of the player behind him in dangerous spot wich where the whole thing starts becoming a clown show (Draws outgabbia....krunic was on vacation too)
