ok, time to post a bit.
i've missed a lot of pages so i'm sure a lot of this has already been said.
1. Tactics
i swear by continuity. i really thought we would build on the brand of football we played last season. the high line, rock and roll football, and try to take it to heavy metal level. it was actually clearly said by Pioli, Maldini, Gazidis that it was the direction chosen. we have completely given up on that and playing "i don't know what" this season.
strength of a building lies in it's foundation....of a team, in it's midfield. i never really liked 4&8 as a duo. hoped it would grow but. it just lacks something. for 4&8 to dominate a midfield (vs a any decent opponent) they must not only have 9-10/10 performances but have it together. better chances of winning lottery.
a strong, Bullying Mid, 4&79 is what allowed the rest of the team to be dangerous
i welcomed the signing of a player like Vranckx, who long term could be an improvement. but could also contribute now if the integration (my 2nd point) was done right.
2. Integration of new players
the reluctance of integrating the new guys (young ones) is frustrating but not entirely surprising. it has always been the case, just that we never had to xero in on it since we were getting results and imrpoving. thinking back of Kalulu's integration. CDK is the only exception, which was also botched...went from 1 extreme to the other.
on the old forum,i remember praising how Pioli, in his first season, wasn't playing like an italian coach. no hand brakes, taking chances. but i thought his Italianess (conservatism) showed sometimes on his personnel choices ... often choosing as first option off the bench players or first rotation option who give him "guarantees" (as conservative italian coaches call them)... those are often really average but simple players...players who don't really elevate our game but would eat "formative" minutes from young prospects who are btw capable of contributing now. Krunic is Back, we'll see Vranckx minutes go back to near 0.
because of that we're running first teamers (what's left of it) to the ground....Theo has been injured. Fik was prime candidate for injury. and one of Giroud, Rafa, Tonali is next.
and even without injuries, they're running on "E". Zombies !
3. Pioli
just like i read others who support Pioli showing frustration with him. i'm there too.
sure there are other big factors affecting us, like injuries, but those 2 points above are solely on him.
we're already weakened and he add more obstacles.
he said something in pre-match conf like "Theo and Giroud are fine and the data proves it" ... i believe in stats but ONLY with human obejective interpretation...and it feels like Pioli and his staff are becoming TOO stats. there needs to be some balance in there.
he used that to justify why he keeps insisting with CDK at the AM. Theo and Giroud are burned, naturally, given their schedules.
stats can be your best friend if used right, or worst enemy if you just rely on them. they can be the biggest liars.
i'd like to believe and i hope we don't just have nerds who compile numbers.
obviously and righfully so, still Pioli has a lot of credit in the banks, but he's now using it.
i'm ready for more of what we have seen in the past few weeks. it doesn't seem like we have any solution.
