All that is correct, but I don't know I just feel other players have been cut more slack, you know? Guys like Balotelli or Pato, they've been allowed to fuck around way more than Gourcuff ever did.

And I'm sorry but no matter how alienated from the group he might have been, there could always be a case made for him to feature over the likes of Il Puma when we were chasing back the result. Yes, Carlo saw him in training and yes Carlo of course knows much more than us, but some youngsters need someone to help them help themselves and I guess he just didn't get that at Milan.

And it's not that he was poor when he played, he just downright didn't play. 2007-08 he started 4 games...

And for the record, I'm not blaming this on Milan or even pissed it didn't work out. I never cared much for him when he was here and didn't even care when he was great with Bordeaux. Just saying perhaps some (including me) have been harsh on him.

He's a good player, he just couldn't settle in Italy. And yes his problem seems to be in his lack of balls.

Problem is he does not fit anywhere.Like c4m said, not even in France.Waste of talent.

You know what I think of Pato already, but at least with all his attitude problems, Balotelli has shown his worth, still not in the consistent levels he should, but the worth is there. Gourcuff showed it in a season and completely faded away aftewards.

And I'm sorry but no matter how alienated from the group he might have been, there could always be a case made for him to feature over the likes of Il Puma when we were chasing back the result. I don't disagree with this. I mean, yeah it drove me nuts that Carlo chose to put on Emerson instead of Gourcuff in games where we could've needed Gourcuff more, as awful as he could've been, it would've been much better option.

The thing I disagree with is that after showing that he wasn't damaged by Carlo or Milan, with a great season in Bordeaux, you still say it's Carlo's fault. It stopped being Carlo's fault once he showed he had talent and then he faded away. That's his fault.

And it's not that he was poor when he played, he just downright didn't play. 2007-08 he started 4 games...
True. Again looking at that particular time I do think we didn't handle him well that year (I do think we handed him well in 06-07, specially cause he had a rib injury for a period after his debut, which possibly is the worse thing that could've happened to him at the time), he should've played a little more.

Then again, what we've heard of his time at Milan are hints of why he might've not played much, we're not really getting the full picture. I would've still played him, just cause watching Emerson come in and do nothing in a game we needed to win or turn around. At least you can cling on some hope that the 20 y/o creative player could've done something, or can turn into something...

Anyway that was a very weird season in every way possible, there's a lot to look in that season, the hectic schedule, Carlo starting to reach his limit with Milan, a lot of individual players issues, everyone's level declined, a lot of injuries, not winning a home game till january and the April turn around..only to fuck it up in Naples...

Galliani and Leo tried to bring him back after the loan to Bordeaux. He didn't want to.

I never rated him much anyway.

If I remember correctly, he demanded more playing time which neither Leo nor Galliani could promise

Yeah, but he clearly didn't fit in with the squad. Seems like there was alot of problems with this.

Tbh I'm sorta glad it didn't work out for him, even though it's not a very nice thing to say :D

In the end it turned out to be a sweet deal for Milan :D

Yea it was coming from both Maldini and Carlo that he didnt have the right attitude and so on. But I think he is massivley talented but he doesnt have the right mentalty to become what he had the talent for. What Ive read about him is that he has distance to fotball, that he for instance enjoys reading litterture and watching opera. In other words, he doesnt have the typical intresets that the modern day footballer has. From what Ive understood his teammates, in the france national for instance, saw him as this snobby overclass kid that didnt belong in the football world. Around the WC 2010 Ribery and some others more or less bullied him.

was it him that didnt want or the fact that Bordeaux had the right to buy him after the loan?

They had fixed buy out clause, at 13.5 milion eruos I think.

Indeed...
But the player can reject any move. Bordeaux wouldn't pay for a player who didn't want to stay.

I remember when Galliani told why Gourcuff didn't want to come back to Milan after that season at Bordeaux, about Milan not promising him playing time. I remember I was absolutely puzzled at the time, as he had just had a simply wonderful season and we had just sold Kaká. Not having him coming back from his loan season was probably one of my biggest disappointments as a Milan supporter, judging by how I felt at the time.

Today I'm not concerned about that. It actually feels like it was a good deal looking at it now. However, I wonder if it would be different had him returned from that loan. Maybe that fantastic season followed by a Milan return as an important player could made his development different from how it ended up going. Also, Allegri's first season could've done something good with him (maybe even more), as many players improved a lot during 10-11.

Gourcuff may like opera and reading but he's known as a party boy too.

@mcorbs6: "Gourcuff used to drink and party too much at Milan." -Ancelotti direct quote

Nesta is a new interview with So Foot:

"Gourcuff was young, very young. He arrived in the big city is Milan, it was the first time he went abroad, and moreover in a prestigious team like Milan. He was too young, he was unable to manage himself, I think. It was not at ease, never came to be 100%. "

Not bad, that action looks a bit like his wonder goal:

Amazing potential this imbecile had before he pissed it all away. His 27 right now, he could have one last chance if he gets shits together to have 3 or so years at the top.

Athletico`s coach looks like someone who can straighten him out.
