With our current squad Id go with a 4-3-2-1 formation, with Aqua-MVB-Prince as our midfield trio and Ibra-Cassano/Robinho behind Pato. Ibra and Cassano have to make up for the lack of creativity at the midfield.

For Serie A I'd prefer 4-3-1-2

-----------Abbiati
Abate---Mexes---T.Silva---Taiwo
-----------Bommel
---Ambrosini------Aquilani
-----------Boateng
-----Pato-----------Ibrahimovic

 so sad I have to drop seedorf on Bench. But we really needs refreshment

And for CL 4-3-2-1

-----------Abbiati
Abate---Nesta---T.Silva---Taiwo
-----------Bommel
---Ambrosini------Aquilani
----Ibrahimovic--Seedorf
------------Pato

we have to win by 1-0 till the CL final.

for the CL games, especially against Barca i believe we need Seedorf's experience and a 2nd half substitution Inzaghi--->Pato for the same reason.
Also, 2nd half substitution Mexes--->Nesta.

Imagine Milan play with Barca's 3-3-1-3, just move their ass in full 90 minutes, keep the stamina, keep the strength, play aggressive, then win..

Against smaller teams:

------------------------Abbiati------------------------

Against bigger teams:

------------------------Abbiati------------------------

We have so much options.

We should play 4-3-2-1 with the current squad.

Abbiati
Abate - Nesta/Mexes - T.Silva - Taiwo
Boateng - Van Bommel - Nocerino/Seedorf/Aquilani
Ibra/Cassano/Aquilani/Robinho - Ibra/Cassano/Aquilani/Robinho
Pato/Ibra

I think that the 4-3-1-2 is pretty solid for this year. Plan A with a physical player like Boateng roaming as CAM, plan B with a more offensive and creative guy like Cassano.

But I would very much like to see this system with Boateng as RCM and Cassano as CAM, this would be very powerful in attack. Cass and Ibra are both great passers but pretty static players, they should work very well with a dynamic guy like Pato or Robi next to them.

Abi - Abate Sandro Silva Taiwo - Boateng Bommel Aqua - Cass - Ibra Pato

I agree now (with Ibra deciding to play as a playmaker and alegeri can do nothing about it)
the best formation is 4-3-2-1

Milan should utilize the flanks some how, by full back or midfielder or forwards, to stretch defenses...

I definitely agree that our inability to threaten from wide positions costs us dearly in the modern game.. It's not like we are even hoping to change our identity, we were able to attack from anywhere on the pitch from Sacchi's era through Ancelotti 2005, but we no longer threaten anyone on the flanks.

I think Taiwo can certainly add something on the left side, but Abate is as useless going forward as he is useful defending. People wonder why he hasn't been called up to the national team, but it's not that difficult to figure out if you just watch him on the opponent's side of the pitch... He gets into great crossing positions but repeatedly sends in horrible balls. The only assist from Abate in an official match that I can think of was a complete mistake against Inter last season (Pato's header)... I love the kid, but he's a huge part of the problem that you are referring to.

With this squad, I'd like to see us give the Christmas tree a shot:
Abbiati
Abate-Nesta-Silva-Taiwo
Aquilani-Van Bommel-Seedorf
Robinho---Ibra
Pato

Now, I don't know that we would want to use that formation in every match, but I think it's the best one that we can come up with. Compared to the Christmas tree from 2007, we basically ask Robinho to do Kaka's duties (run at the defense, roam all over the pitch), Ibra fills Seedorf's role, and we exchange Gilardino/Inzaghi for Pato (the only improvement over the 2007 version). I think the most important thing is that Ibra/Robinho are not responsible for all of the creativity... We struggled last season with those three playing together because we didn't have other creative options, but we shouldn't have that problem with Aquilani and Seedorf on the pitch.

All serie A team defend deep against milan and play on the counter, the best way to attack a deep line defense is through width not center.
I think milan should utilize this formation 4-2-3-1, with both wings helping back and Ibra and Pato the only two player not defending.

Mr.Milanista Ive got to agree with you on this. Especially if el shaarawy can develop into a great player. This formation offers speed on the wings, creativity, a deadly striker, cover in bommel and a passer in aquilani to bring robinho and el shaarawy into the game.

If only allegri would consider something like this.

Put Ibra in Pato's position, Aquilani in Ibra's position, and Nocerino beside Van Bommel. When Ibra comes deep to collect the ball, Robinho and El Shaarawy can make runs ahead of him.
