Dunno what happened to the PC games thread, used the Search function and came up with nada. So I'll post this here.
Got Resident Evil 5 and NFS Undercover like two weeks back...haven't had much time for anything else since then.
NFSUC is quite old, 2009 iinm, but Shift and Shift2 Unleashed are circuit racing back-to-basics titles afaik, and that's pretty shitty. Yes, I heard there's a newer one now (haven't checked), but I think I'm ok with Undercover. Then there's the small issue of not having a laptop powered by nvidia or ATI... :/
Speaking of which, so far RE5's running ok on medium to low settings..clocking an average of 28fps, with a bit of lag. One thing I kind of noticed recently is that pc game creators tend not to use any more than 1 processor as the default. Which means if you have a duocore (mine) or quad, you may have a lot of that available proc power wasted.
Same for physical RAM...even with the lag I have I found out that while the game's active (with like 8 Majini all attacking) it just used about half of my proc speed and a little more than half of RAM. What a waste.
And this seems to be the case with most post-09 pc games.
Then, the graphics processor issue. If it's not nvidia, or ATI, having a gig+ of cache memory doesn't really help much. That's actually what's causing the slight lag I'm experiencing on RE5. My 'humble' Intel GMA proc is a full 1GB, yet, the lag. C'mon guys, stop 'wasting' hardware.
I'm going to tune down the res to maybe 1024x7xx tonite. Then, the config.ini file, I'm going to up the JobThread value to 2 (got that from a geek forum)..meaning the game'll finally use my two cores.
In any case, even though I played it halfway on our Xbox360 in '09, I'm finding hard to put down now. So much to say but I'll stop here.
Getting Arkham City, Deadspace 2 and a couple other games from a friend like next week....got newer drivers for my GPU today so we should be able to handle 'em.
Mental note: next laptop MUST have a GeForce or nothing. That's what really matters, forget multi-core procs or 8gb RAM.
) getting lost in Viridian forest and getting ass-raped by Beedril, surfing through the wide seas on your favorite water-type pokemon and that feeling you get when you beat the champion in a long grueling battle... all with top-notch graphics.
