no one has hit the panic button but realistic people who aren't bias see top 4 isn't going to be easy as currently constructed.
Who the hell said it was easy? I predicted to Milan to finish 4th, and I acknowledged I am making an educated guess based on our market and the competing clubs. I think we are in a position to be positive (but not confident) about our chances.

SMS being added to the team would change the game entirely though. It would make it a disaster if we couldn't secure CL.

Don't agree here. We created a TON of chances after Gattuso arrived last season. When we were in prime form and "conquered" Rome? Stick Higuain in instead of Cutrone and that donkey Kalinic, and we would've almost certainly beaten Inter and perhaps drawn or won against Juve too.

The only games that give credibility to your statement were the Arsenal ones. But everything from the defense forward was messed up in those games.

Not saying CL is a lock, but saying we are out of the CL spots for sure is shortsighted as well. Think of the churn Roma have had, and Napoli adjusting to a completely new system using a team that was designed for Sarri's version of Pep's circle jerk football.

If you check the stats, although we created the 2nd/3rd most chances we were only 10th for meaningful goal scoring chances created. In other words, most of the chances were shots from outside the box.

Also, I don't think Gattuso's points tally paints a true picture. There were some games where we played amazing (e.g. Juve away) but plenty of games where we also got lucky. Gattuso's achievements also diminished down the latter part of the season as the new manager/motivational impact wore off.

I also don't understand why people think Roma and Napoli have had significant turnover. Roma lost Alisson and Nainggolan but replaced the latter with Cristante + Pastore who are both Serie A experienced and will be able to hit the ground running. N'Zonzi is also a great signing for them. Napoli only lost Jorginho but replaced him with Fabian Ruiz (very underrated player) and held onto everybody else. The side that finished in the top 3 for the past 3 seasons. They also made a few shrewd signings like Verdi & Meret whilst Ghoulam & Milik will return fully fit. Carlo is a top manager so it's almost unthinkable that they could finish outside top 4.

Also, don't forget we're changing half our squad too with Caldara, Laxalt, Higuain, Bakayoko & possibly SMS so could also have adjustment difficulties.

Considering Leo's past preference for 4-2-fantasia, the slim option in mid along with these two new wingers, I think Leo is pushing 4-2-3-1 on Gattuso.

Also considering our only strikers now are Higuain-Cutrone-Borini, this means no 4-3-1-2.

Higuain (Cutrone)

Laxalt (Bona) - Hakan - Suso (Samu)

Biglia - Kessie (Cakayoko)

RR- Caldara - Romagnoli - Conti

:star::star::star:

This is my favorite lineup on paper. It will be interesting if we line up in a 4-3-3 with Laxalt as LCM, because it might end up just turning into this anyways since Hakan generally moves centrally.

I think we can beat any team in serie a with our best team. absolutely. We wont always have our best team on the pitch due to injuries and suspensions. That's why we need quality depth. We are literally one -2 players away from being on par with the top 4 sides. I hope we address this issue during the next transfer window because milan must top 4 at any cost.

I second this.

Think some fans seem to forget where we were a month ago. But Elliot come in, overturn our ban, sack F&M and replace them with competent directors - with little time left in the market. Then after hearing that Bonucci wants to leave Leo does a masterclass and secures Higuain and Caldara. Gets rid of fodders and their wages. Adds pace and depth to the team with Laxalt and Castillejo.

But if we finish the market without SMS we're no chance of making CL

I wasn't personally saying you, but people here think teams like Napoli and Roma have have been a lot better than Milan for years now are suddenly go to drop off. In terms of SMS, he's not a part of Milan (not yet at least haha), so let's not bring him into the equation.

what are we going to do if pipita gets injured? cutrone lel? that guy is a nobody compared to pipita and isnt remotely close to the former's level. Our quality drops drastically If pipita gets injured. If Hasan and suso get injured, we will literally have zero creativity in the team.

Cutrone was good enough to drag us to 6th even while having to split time with Kalinic. I think losing Higuain would be horrible depending on when it happened, but remember what we achieved in spite of a shit first half of the season last year.

What did we really achieve? We moved from 7th under Montella to 6th under Gattuso.

Don't think you read the atmosphere correctly.

It's not whether we have to buy SMS or not - I believe we would get to CL even without him.

But great mezz'ala transfer should have been our top priority since the first day of mercato. I won't criticize F&M anymore, thank god they're gone and they didn't have enough time to operate this summer.

But Leonardo should have been going after a mezz'ala since the day one. Not after Higuain. Not after Caldara. I'm not saying those moves were bad - they're great - but they should have had lower priority than getting a great mezz'ala.

It's like in a role-playing game. You have the main story and other quests to make. Of course you can make those side-quests, you even should accomplish them. But without focusing on the main plot you won't get to the end. And mezz'ala was our main story this mercato.
Without getting a great mezz'ala - Rabiot, SMS, someone unknown, it doesn't matter to me, it has to be a great player - we need a great, big miracle to get into CL. Having even the best striker won't get you anywhere if you don't have a midfield able to pass the ball to him.

That's why I think this mercato will be a failure without a great mezz'ala. I wanted a playmaker and a great winger and what did we get? Castillejo and this Genoa fodder. :fp: And no playmaker at all.
Same happened to Manchester United this winter - they had several great wingers and a weak defence. What did Mourinho do? He bought Sanchez and failed to buy a great defenders. That's why it's said he failed then and that's why I think Leonardo will fail if he won't buy a classy mezz'ala today or tomorrow. It's make it or break it scenario, it's black or white now.

What exactly was Gattuso's offensive philosophy last season because I didn't see much of it haha. Most times we looked like headless chickens going forward. Defensively Gattuso was well prepared gave us a shape. Hopefully Leo can give him an offensive player that can make a difference between today and tomorrow.

I don't think anyone has said we're a lock. It's gonna be hard to predict. Definitely still have some areas of weakness but we're much better off than last season.

Forward line is only inferior to Juve/Napoli imo.

Sorry but Inter & Roma have better forward lines as things stand. Signing a top winger would even things out.

Milan: Suso, Hakan, Higuain, Cutrone, Samu, Haililovic  Borini :fp:
Inter: Icardi, Martinez, Candreva, Perisic, Politano, Keita, Karamoh
Roma: Perotti, Dzeko, Schick, Pastore, Under, Kluivert, SES

Right, so moving from 6th to 4th should be just a bit more difficult? What kind of logic is that?

Inter yes, Roma...seriously? Even if Dzeko plays well he's not on Higuain's level. Pastore a few years ago would've been amazing. Not so sure anymore.

Schick and Under could be wild cards.

The rest? Nah. No better than our depth pieces (except of course Borini).

I don'e care if it's SMS or not. I'm not going to freak out if they couldn't land a 100m player. But they desperately need to land an offensive, creative player or 2 by tomorrow.

Meanwhile Jacobelli of ********** says that Milan are challenging Juve for Milinkovic, and that the situation should be monitored until last minutes of the mercato because Milan are strongly involved in the deal.:monto:

I'd swap Bakayoko with Laxalt, the rest I agree with. Depth for Kessie (and I think Bakayoko could even be vice-Biglia some games) is so important, that I think that signing is very important.

have you seen perotti play? he is very crafty and skilful. He is quite underrated and is on par with suso tbh.
