There are far too many to name past & present
Isn't signing Ndicka and selling Tomori to upgrade the squad something you suggested?

There are only 2-3 truly unsellable players in this team, everyone else is fair game. Every club does this

Even City sold Jesus and Sterling and used that money to strengthen the squad and find gems like Julian Alvarez, it's normal. Without moves like this you can't upgrade the team unless you are an oil club or truly elite

Alvarez was already signed when Sterling and Jesus were still at the club. Also both players would of been out of contract this summer if they had stayed.

No way you managed to list and suck off the 3 players I dislike the most from the last 15 years.

Respect

Tbf to me, I’m only a fan of one of them.

The other 2 I just are just examples of what I noticed. Not exactly a fan but not that it matters anyway.

Anyway with that said:

Warra trophy, final or 2nd place for Milan or whatever this season, cry about it👋👋👋

This is a joke but can’t wait for R&B to get a mad at this comment and be uptight about it

City was probably a bad example because they are fully loaded and can do whatever they want but the point still stands

Club sells players, uses that money to invest back into the squad, and raises the ceiling

Leao certainly won't be sold unless someone activates his clause. Mike and Theo might be given their age and contracts coming up but I already expected that given Milan will be unlikely to match the salary demands at this point of their careers. I expect more movement around the guys like Bennacer, Tomori, Krunic, etc. Players who have shown value but aren't irreplaceable and fundamental

Oh just stop it already.

Only in this stupid forum you’ll see genuine disrespect to players who contributed to Milan in their time like Suso/Bona/Romagnoli and hype/worship a kid who made 1 G/A and pretty much played a big part in getting our icon/legend fired by being a complete flop or hyping Adli who has barely seen minutes.

If we had Bonaventura in AM instead of Diaz/CDK, our team would have been comfortably better, easily. It’s not even up for debate.

Stop being ungrateful for once.

@papaberlu you know I’m spilling here don’t act cute

Diaz and Charles have been the most frustrating player to watch this season :o

That's my hope, at least. It's a lot riskier (in a sporting sense) than the plan I was hoping we'd follow, which is what Maldini wanted to do. Upgrade the squad with more guaranteed champions with the money we made so far. It's cheaper, though, and a lot less risky financially. I know that's always going to be the side RB fall on, and Maldini wanted there to be more risk financially and less sporting risk. That's the fault line that couldn't be bridged.

Great post, and fair takes :star:

What's the riskier or the easier route is very difficult to forsee tho IMO. I liked the Kamada and RLC links especially on favorable terms or even for free. I'm not a huge fan tho of names like Arnautovic, Berardi or Zaniolo. I've never been a fan of overpaying for CDK. Maldinis idea of how to operate might be faster if you guess the right moves, but it has the potential to backfire more greatly if you don't, which this season almost ended with us falling out of CL. There's probably no right or wrong, only hindsight.

(Admitted tho that this last part is a very delicate point where Piolis missmanagement of great stretches of 2023 played into it too.)

I guess I kinda fancy the idea of giving Moncada a bigger say. I wished Maldini would have leaned more into that idea too. For me, peak Milan was 2021/2022 under Gazidis, where from the outside there seemed to be much more of a team effort than now. But that's only my very limited POV from the outside. I honestly fully buy the Maldini-Pioli-frictions tho, and after the power struggle of last summer something seemed unrepearably broken throughout this season anyway. The divorce was written on the walls. The style it went down is highly debatable, allthough I'd argue it hasn't changed much since Elliott took over. We've seen those cold heart press releases when Leonardo left and when Boban was sacked. The reason people probably remind it slightly different today is because we went on improving and winning trophies, so in hindsight everything gets a more positive painting. This will be no different this time - if we improve and win. Otherwise...

I find this hard to believe. Moncada had a hard on for CDK for years. We spent 35m+ on him and will have to sell at a huge loss. Another year to see if he steps up is the only prudent option (unless they get an offer that’s around 30m where we don’t write of a loss).

It would be shocking if we sell him this summer.

I don't know what to think about Alexis, i always liked him and i still see potential in him but regarding CDK i can't wait to see him gone, i'm sorry but he is the main reason we finished 5th. Nothing against him personally of course but i don't see any great talent in him, he is not fast enogh, he does not have a great shooting ability, he does not win aerial duels, he just did a few good passing here and there

That's not what they said tho? Furlani and Scaroni both droped "we want to improve" and "we're ambitous" too.

Brother, we almost fell out of CL last summer. It's not written in stone that continuing under Maldini is better than whatever they are planning now. I fully embrace your POV that it might backfire royally, but please try to entertain the idea that whatever reasoning they have and if you agree with it or not - their goal is not to stagnate. ;)

Gazzetta said they will sell for 28m, I believe it

Just because Moncada likes the player doesn't mean he fits Pioli's approach or that he's worth the cost

Pioli will get input on his squad and has made it abundantly clear he doesn't like Charles

I can stop acting cute

Now that you're a grown-up maybe you should go back and watch some of those Jack games and see his blatant flaws

He had issues with physicality, decision making, vision, dribbling, etc.

Brahim is 100% the better player and really it's not close

The main reason we finished 5th? A tad harsh I’d say. The kid wasn’t good by any means but we won the Scudetto with largely the same squad and Pioli shoul’ve lead this team to a comfortable top 4 finish regardless of CDK’s uselessness.

I’m sorry but I’m on board with selling CDK.

Pioli is the coach, he’s the central to the project. He doesn’t rate CDK. What’s the point of keeping him? CDK deserves a team that will actually want to count on him.

This is why he’s also having a tough time to perform, only Maldini and maybe Moncada had faith in him. Furlaini wanted Dybala. Pioli doesn’t have faith in him. If the coach doesn’t really have faith in him it’s hard for him to really perform.

This fits perfectly with Pioli's comments before our last few games how "he didn't know" if Charles would be with us next season. Now it's clear he was just throwing Paolo under the bus further!

How did Maldini not lean into it?
Have we signed any names that were established and guaranteed starters, that appeared to be his picks?
No. I would suggest most of the signings weren't his. They were probably presented to him and he approved. If you're going to say all the older players were his picks then most of them were pretty damn good and potentially decisive in our success. Ibra, Kjaer and Giroud have been massively important. Florenzi was also playing out of his skin in the run in last season before his injury this year. Can't call that bad business. Origi is the only stand out failure.
I don't understand why you or anyone is saying CDK was his call and he therefore takes the slack. But the likes of Thiaw and Kalulu are certainly Moncada? FYI everyone backed the CDK move. People were crying over the risk of not getting him. He looked a perfect fit. With the room to grow into a deputy to Giroud too. Shit happens, he isn't conclusively a failure yet either.

We let Kessie go and we did not really mind to substitute him because we didn't want any longer to make 0 0 against Bologna and Torino while we are fighting for the Scudetto, we didn't want anymore to struggle in beating teams like Empoli and Cagliari ( both 1-0 ) we wanted to change our style into a more attacking style and CDK should have been the main player to put in place this change and he has been a total failure. We ended up in playing with Diaz when we wanted to attack and Krunic when we wanted to defend without having Kessie on the team

milan and italy are not the pinnacle of football anymore like in the 90's

as long as we are not state owned we will sell key players. leao and theo will eventually have too high demands or want to try something new

It feels like something inside me has died with the firing of my beloved Maldini.

Football fandom is not rationality. For over 20 years as a fan he has been the embodiment of what I've loved about Milan. Superhuman coolness, physical excellence, technical excellence, behaviour and presentation always as classy as it gets. When he returned after the banter era it gave me back hope of again seeing a great Milan, because I trusted him to know how to achieve it. I knew he was extremely intelligent and savvy even without front office experience. Several windows in a row he shed unwanted players and signed several gems out of nowhere, it was like an incredible merry-go-round of cost-cutting quality enhancement. All through these feats of directorship it's been pretty chaotic, the Boban firing, the friction with Gazidis/Elliott, and lastly with Redbird. The market last season and this seasons rumoured market was, I'm sad to say, not what I had hoped would be the continuation of his directorship. I nonetheless knew that he would've built a strong Milan and that he would've been able to provide the owners with the economic growth they wanted.

Maybe I will heal up over the summer, but right now it feels hollow. What is football fandom without emotion? At a rational level it could go very well with our new approach. Losing the cushion of Paolo and Ibra may be what this group actually needs. As long as we don't go into a modus operandi of selling our big names we might be okay. I think we're Kamada, another midfielder and two good attackers away from taking big steps next season qualitatively.

Like @nonsonoqui said, this just hurts. I feel very far from okay with this treatment of our number one icon. Ibra is not Paolo, he hasn't even won the Champions League.

I don't thinks that's necessarily true. Yes high transfer fees are out of our reach but we should be able to grow a core and offer them higher wages as they grow with the team. That is certainly sustainable. We buy guys at reasonable prices when they're young and let them grow together. Serie A is too competitive for cl places to have high turnover of squad every year. You need a core be consistent.
