I don't understand why it's important when adli was technically bought and if it fits the theory of pioli freezing out the 23' summer market solely?

Never mind when he was purchased, in actuality he was brought in only last summer, when there was a clear cut between pioli and Maldini, and pioli cold turkey refused to involve any of the new singings when he played important matches or most of them really.

Adli is just the most extreme example of it since his playing style differs from pioli, but it was a conclusive managerial decision since Vranckxxx, dest, thiaw, and cdk haven't seen many minutes compared to the scudetto squad (with varied degrees).

I agree but you have to remember that we have a 50m black hole from last summer so until we manage to shift those players (namely CDK) that loss will always be playing on Cardinale's mind (btw I know all about amortisation but am just talking high level). Also, maybe RedBird expect Moncada to shift the deadwood for 20m which will equate to a 70m mercato or perhaps sacrifice a top player which will yield even more. After all, we managed to sign Kalulu, Mike, Theo, Tonali, Benny + Leao for c.100m combined a few years ago.

He's a bit rough around the edges technically speaking and lacks Zhegrova's finesse although he makes up for it in speed + power. I'd be very happy with either player because beggars can't be choosers and we've been operating like a homeless shelter on the right flank for the past few years.

Pioli will get a year to stunt the growth of the young players who come in, and the ones who breakthrough will have to wait until the inevitable injury crisis that hamstrings our season, and we'll watch them fire Pioli, who may or may not figure out that maybe passing and possession are useful tools against bottom half sides.

Nope, because here’s the thing that I’ve said multiple times: they know not all prospects will hit.

Ballo Toure is an easy example of this. They know very well that when you don’t spend a lot on hidden gems, sometimes they won’t work. I too believe in Adli’s talent to an extent but for now I put him in this category. Adli was definitely a scouting find, not a maldini purchase, I think that’s really obvious. In fact Maldini probably didn’t even know who he was. Just because an individual player doesn’t work out doesn’t make him some gotcha, because he was signed prior to 2022 summer. Adli isn’t the only player signed before then to fail lol.

I would have a bigger issue with signing players like Bakayoko, Florenzi, and Origi then paying low money for a young player with some talent that may or may not work.

And remember Sam, I’m putting Maldini and Pioli in the same boat. I’m not willing to overlook 3 years of really good growth for one bad season. For Pioli or Maldini. I do think rather than nitpicking singular players as part of Maldini or Moncada failure/success, it does seem to be that maybe Maldini changed the operating of the club. He asked for more power, we know that, good or bad he asked for more autonomy. And the people around him didn’t like it and want to get back to the way things were from 2019-2021.

Like you said, they need to make it work this season or else it’s a huge failure. The ONE good thing about all of this is that it seems their collective vision is back. Whether or not Maldini was right(he may have been), it’s definitely better for the coach/management team/owner to be in sync. There’s no way that’s not true. We had that for about 3 seasons and it ended with going from 6th to 2nd to 1st. I still believe in the potential of this team and a shared vision is a good thing.

FBT wasn't a prospect though? FBT was brought in when we had Theo Hernandez. His role was to be backup.

When Adli was bought we had a Hakan-sized hole in our team and Brahim Diaz was brought in during the fantasy transfer committee timez when Moncada was still being listened to, apparently. We needed players in that role. He's one of the brightest Ligue 1 talents (Moncada is supposed to like French talents, yes?)

So, no, FBT is not the same as Adli, because their purchases have completely different contexts. Hauge got more playing time than Adli. Hauge.

You aren't putting Pioli and Maldini in the same boat, I'm sorry. Pioli gave Dest, someone who doesn't know the handball rule, more time than Adli.

The black hole or not is the profit or loss in the yearly balance sheet. Milan is supposed to be in profit for the year. Now Inter has spent huge amounts on salaries of players like Lukaku, Hakan, Dzeko. That money spent on salaries is gone forever, it's a real black hole.

Now if you just look at transfers, Milan could still sell CDK for maybe 20 mil and get most of the money spent (32 mil ) back. And then if you look at the valuation of Thiaw, it must have increased by at least 25 mil which is more than the loss on CDK. So even last year's failed mercato in purely money terms is net positive!
