For sure but I find it worth repeating that Pioli's career in general at Milan has been very positive.
Let's not cloud the positive of the overall story with the less positive or negative of the latter part of the story.

We all remember B&G's last years were not that great for us and we wanted new owners so badly.
Those first years under new owners were horrid. Even worse than B&G's last years.
Eventually things started looking up but in those few years the appreciation for B&G's work over all those years really settled in.
Same might hold true for Pioli (on a micro-scale compared to B&G ofc).

Not that great? B&G, in their last 10 years, managed to undo almost everything they built in the 20 years before that, barring the reputation, which still holds up, of course. But in terms of club planning, growth, development, exposure, marketing and whatnot, you'll hardly find an example of worse mismanagement. Even Yonghong Li, who almost bankrupted the club in one year, only started from the bottom and just dug a deeper hole. One could even argue that Silvio selling us to Yonghong Li was almost his one last move that could have killed AC Milan as a top club for good.

Thinking of what could have been if someone like Elliott Management took over in 2008 when the club was at its highest point, even at the top - or at least near the very top - of European football income-wise...

Elliott and Redbird had and still have a ton of work to do to catch up with the rest of the world. Meanwhile, the Italian government and those dinosaurs at FIGC do everything to slow us down. Throw in a random pandemic that financially ruined many big clubs, Inter and Barca amongst them, and you may but slowly begin to realize what an incredible job has been done in the last few years when you look at where this journey began and where we are now.

I mean, come on, we're comfortably in 3rd place, won a Scudetto two years ago, went into the CL Semifinal last year, have our books in order, look into a future with a young team full of potential, and are about to build our own stadium, letting Inter rot together with San Siro. If I could go back to 2016 and tell my younger self that in times like these, we would still ask for the coach's head, blame the management for not spending 15M more for another player and look towards our next game in depression, my younger self would ask me what the fuck is wrong with us all.

That's not me saying that we should never criticize the management or the coach. To be clear, I want Pioli gone too at the end of this season. This is more me pondering our last few years and thinking about how we (myself included) even dare to criticize, sometimes, considering where we once were.

People are happy to see him doing well and improve beyond the bench
I am happy for him as well, he really put me off in a couple of games but I don't have anything against him personally and the last game was a big step on the right track.
I just find it strange how uncritical he is seen even vis a vis Reijnders and Bennacer. With all respect I think there are some Pirlo-orphanage traumas lingering

The venn diagram of the posters overhyping Adli and Bennacer is essentially a single circle

And we paid a bit more for Reijnders so it’s normal expectation for him is higher

I mean yes you can argue it’s ridiculous that Bennacer, RLC and even Rejinders get way more criticism that Adli, but probably because Adli wasn’t treated unfairly by Pioli so he gets more leeway. Secondly the samples size for those players is much bigger.

Secondly he played really well. So maybe in a match where he does poorly again which will happen, your point would be more fair.

But tbh, I really get to your point this time. For once I can finally understand where you’re coming from
