2 goals in one match don't make him win ballon d'or messi/CR scored 60 any season maybe into top 5
of course agree that Pato<Messi/CR, but Messi plays with Xavi & Iniesta, against spanish defenses (< italian, even now!).
You can't compare these players only by goals.

Bit late there, buddy.

You will never become better than the 16 year old Pato :(

I hate a lot of the media cliche as most of it is complete BS; however, what I have seen from Pato this offseason is very promising. It is if he is ready to step up and become a leader and trusts his body again which is what is needed. If we actually get a midfield to service him, he is going to have a special season.

Great post, Fred.

But these sections are a little biased. Pato played very well at the end of last season. Godly enough to deliver the title. And you had to put that scoring bit in there, didn't you? :D:)

Well thank you, Kuja. :)

The scoring? Well, he did score more during last season than anyone in modern time. No one should ever forget that.

Fred, we've had our differences, but this is an amazing and very objective post. Kudos.
Thanks buddy. The differences are the reasons we're here. Would be quite boring if all posts only got "yeah I agree"-replies.

I don't like him wearing #9. Something about #7 that fits him perfectly. Could be that I've gotten used to seeing him with it ofc :D

I say it again, Pato is lost as CF, hopefully we can get Matri and start a 3 man attack with him on the right and Robin Hood on the left.

Not going to happen - Matri aint coming and I doubt Pato will play SS, RW etc anymore in his career.

Never say never in football but this is damn close to never.

Matri or another striker also need to support from midfield. we only have Montolivo who has vision and creative, while Boateng, Nocerino, flamini, urby is zero in this aspect. I missed Pirlo!!!!:(:(:(:(:(

He struggles as a pure CF it's not his speciality he works better coming off the CF...

Robi-----Pazzini----Pato

Then he would shine, running through all the channels, hopefully we work out a system that can unleash the potential because you can see the kid really tries.....

Sometimes too many cooks spoil the broth, Pato should just tell Allegri and Co. to stfu and do his own thing sometimes too many instructions can hinder the development of such a player..........

Food for thought

200% correct. However, it is both Allegri and Pato's fault. The first one because it seems that is tactical scheme is one that does not require forwards and the other one because he is so stubborn in trying to be a poacher that just waits for the last pass.

I too would like to see 4-3-3, Shaarawy & Boateng could also rotate as wingers on either side.

Follow every game of Pato in olympic games, I'm sorry you have not played more. In the match against Sweden did well in the short time he played ...
I hope a Pato this season without injuries, because Milan need him very much and in good shape.
I want to see Pato celebrating many goals this season ...

Pato was awful when he played on the right wing under Leo. His best form in Milan was as a lone striker with Kaka behind him.

Thats true. It seems however through injuries and reshuffling he has become a lot more static than he used to be; he drops deeper or on the wing much more rarely and mostly just stays up top on the shoulder of the last defender, waiting for the final ball... :(

he was also very good w/ kaka/pippo....

i'm not sure how much this is try as it is the team changed.

from minute kaka left, milan went from a quick direct attack to a hold up one. Ronaldinho left island ball (which put Pato in a bad position anyway), and then ibra ball.

All patos' best goal scoring came when milan went w/ a quick penetrating attack... be it at SS or CF from wide or central. Basically getting him breaking the line.

occasionally it happened w/ ronaldinho or zlatan, but not often enough. Where as with Kaka, it was MAIN mode of attack.

that's why idea of a robinho/kaka/pato trident is REALLY good... they can all play that fast penetrating football... kaka thru the middle, robi drifting, pato being pato.

You want to get duck on move with support and movement around him. Not stall up ball

I thought you didnt believe Milan can have counterattack tactics in serie a :o

but I noticed Pato being static for Brazil too. He used to be a lot more creative and involved in the buildup.

well, they need more than 1 mode of attack. If Pato was complete, we'd hav e won league in 08-09/09-10... but he only scored consistently in those counter-ish. Hence why his tally was low.

I don't think pato is by any means a complete player. That's the system he thrives on. Hence, why he needs to grow.

@Brazil-

it seems most of time ive seen him for brazil, it's been somewhat disjointed/unorganized and slow in attack. Not great link up for most part. And he gets lost.

Damiao is more use there

the other thing, which i do think is worth mentioning is pace of game. Milan's attack was just slower w/ ronaldinho or zlatan leading the ship.

That's less to do with counter attack and just pure tempo.

-

i mean barring injury, does anyone here doubt pato would tear the epl up, because higher tempo exposes defenders more and he'd get his chances

He'd work well at Chelsea or City. Not your average Sunderland/Stoke, I don't think.

someone email this to allegri and show him what kinda player pato used to be. and the kind of potential he still has in him.

He does seem to have lost some technical ability, mostly in his dribbling, but to be fair, most of his 'prime moments' in this video are based on his lightning speed, which I believe he's still got but tends to choose not to use too often in fear of a new injury. I have good hopes he'll use that speed again once he can break that vicious circle of injuries and manages to get more regular playing time. Eventually some of his trickery might even return but this is not such a big issue since he never was the type of player to pass several defenders, more like the sort of player great in one-on-ones after which he could deliver a world-class finish.
I just hope he can fulfill some of his potential this season and show us exactly why Milan paid a freak amount of money for a 17-year old all those years ago.
