Messi probably has the best close control in the world, Ronaldo is probably the best dribbler.

Pato should definitely be on the bench, even if he isnt used, it would be a good mental boost to the team and fans. Not to mention it should be a good mind fuck for inter considering Pato usually does very well against inter and they know the threat he provides.

he cant be on bench ,simple couse he will play for primavera day before derby and everyone knowes he wont play this match but i am ok with that couse he will be fit for lazio.

Interesting discussion....for me dribbling is a COMBINATION of tricks, change of pace and direction AND close control. DRIBBLING = MOVING WITH THE BALL

The best dribbler(s) I have ever seen are Maradonna, Ronaldo (R9) and Messi. All three are equivalent but not equal. Messi and Maradonna have more close control and rely less on tricks that are risky. Ronaldo can so step-overs, elasticos etc at break-neck speed (this is why i didn't include Ronaldinho because he usually slowed down to do his elasticos even though he was prettier than anyone else).

Pato tried to be in Ronaldo's mould and was doing a pretty good job initially but he never struck me as having the close control any of the above did. His close control needs to improve dramatically to be even mentioned with the above. If he can get it to Ronaldo's level (which is incredible, but still below Maradonna and Messi) AND combine them with his tricks then he'll be a special dribbler.

If the above doesn't work, then he'll have to improve a tad more on his overall striking instincts and definitely on his passing. In which case he'll be an Eto'o/$heva/Henry tier level striker which is also awesome but don't expect any golden ball/wopy etc

@Pato's dribbling. At his top, which was 2009, he was still closer to an etoo/sheva style dribbler, which is imo, wonderful and world class. But they always took a direct approach.


It helped having kaka who would set him up into space, which is where he thrived. Since the end of ancelotti era, pato's been in systems which don't suit him. Partly cause he's incomplete player.

Robinho and Neymar is the best dribbler in the world and Di Maria is also pretty close.

I was with you because pato is not really a great dribbler because he is not fast/quick in reality but when you mentioned Messi all your post went slightly to the drain. Messi is the best player right now, but he does not dribble, Messi is more direct than Pato because Messi has amazing control of the ball at great speed; however, he does not dribble like a Robinho, Crissy, Neymar or player that can dribble.

granted my exposure to great dribblers is limited compared to many of the posters here

but of the world cups...olympics games...CL games and few years of serie a and EPL games i've watched...i'd put messi as the best dribbler i've seen

As I said before, Messi is a great player with the best control of the ball at fast speed that I have seen. He does not dribble, he pass defenders with his speed. If you people call that dribbling, then Theo Walcott must be the best dribbler of all time.

if the ball is at his feet while he is moving, then he is considered to be dribbling. well, at least that's how i learned the game

I don't know if you're serious or sarcastic but I HATE the flicks and tricks style of dribbling. Every time a players does that i pray for a DM to come with a two-footed tackle flamini style.
