Dida is set to sign a contract extension at Milan within the next month or so.

The former Brazil number one is rated as one of the best keepers in Serie A and his representatives have been embroiled in discussions with Rossoneri officials this week.

Dida is believed to be convinced that remaining at the San Siro is his best option, even though his present deal expires in June and he could discuss a lucrative Bosman move with other clubs in January.

The developments look certain to quash speculation linking Milan with bids for Gianluigi Buffon and Marco Amelia.

Dida could earn up to €3 million a year under the terms of the proposed new contract.

I swear, the football news is like Pong. Back and forth; he's staying, he isn't, then he's staying again. :)

Galliani would have to offer Dida 'shit loads' to convince him to stay after the lack of trust he had in him over the past season.

Nobody's irreplaceable, ergh?

Who better to talk out of both sides of their mouth than the team vice president, eh?

One thing else I've noticed: Dida hasn't given any interviews to the Italian press or Milan Channel since the 1-1 Sampdoria draw last January. Not that I mind, but something's up in that department as well.

Ah dw he's just waiting for the big one in the next up coming days ;) He's always been the introvert type. Actions speak more than words. =)

We don't need buffon, amelia or any gk available as long as Dida is going to stay with us. He is very important to our team. I hope he signs the extension and Galliani just shuts up and listens to him.

Oh, I know that, but even after the Istanbul debacle, the 4-3 win over Parma (when he dropped the cross that led to Parma scoring), and the loss to Inter last December, he was still quite talkative. But after the Samp draw (that was the match when the ball went in off his arm), he just clammed up. That was the nadir of his run of bad form and after that the press were on him something fierce. Since then, he hasn't made a peep.

Him, of all people...isn't that something? Out of the mouths of babes... :D

Oh, and Tuttomercato (Italian for "tribalfootball") says that Dida will likely re-sign after the derby. We'll see.

Dida is currently our most in-form player. I'm actually really surprised to see him this well after the hard times last year.

Hehe, I can totally picture Fiori giving a visit to Dida every day just to tell him "sign now"...actually that's the only thing I can picture Fiori doing(he who has a great life in Milan, getting a good paycheck, not playing, not getting the blame for losing, but being able to celebrate the greatest victories).

Here's the whole kit 'n caboodle. :)

SAFE HANDS

Nelson Dida has returned to the sort of form everyone expects from one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Nelson Dida has been keeping his own council on his outstanding performances this season so far. The 1.95m goalkeeper is as humble off the pitch as he is secure on it but Milan goalkeeping coach Villiam Vecchi has been quick to sing the Brazilian's praises.

Speaking to the Milan Channel, Vecchi said: "Nelson has had an excellent series of games and has returned to the level expected of a goalkeeper like him. We have always had confidence in him just as the club has even when he wasn't at his best. Strikers go through periods when they don't score but when a keeper makes a mistake it's all down to him. If he doesn't do well and the team gets a negative result then it's even worse. It's difficult to be a goalkeeper, but we have a lot of confidence in Nelson."

Dida's excellent save from Tchite against Anderlecht, coupled with Kakà's splendid winner, gave Milan three valuable Champions League points but Vecchi was not surprised by the save: "It had all the characteristics of an agile, elastic and rapid keeper. I have to say it is difficult to find these characteristics in a keeper who stands at 1.95m as he does. In terms of decision-making, he's one of the best in world. His save from Tchite was like the one he made at home to Ajax. Despite his bulk, he's very elastic and that's how he made that save."

The coach knows little on whether Dida will extend his contract: "Galliani has spoken about it but I don't know that much, so I can't say anything. If our chief executive has said it then it has to be believed. I know Valerio Fiori tells Nelson to sign almost every day. Now we have to concentrate on Palermo and are objective is to get back to winning in the league." (acmilan.com)

The one guy who probably isn't pleased with Dida's sudden revival? Kalac. :)

not only does he not complain... Fiori is tryin' to convince a rival to his position to extend his contract... this guy definitely shows he has unconditional love for Milan... or maybe he loves the time on the bench?

Two goals allowed today...oh, well, can't win 'em all.

Yeah, the same guy who admonished him like a five-year-old by blaring "No more mistakes, Dida" to the media last season? Whatever.

I didn't watch the game so I can't really pass any kind of judgment, but from what I've read, that was one hell of a shot from Bresciano that he couldn't get a grip on. But the fact that we can't score to save our lives, rather than a conceded goal, is a more pressing matter.

Right now, I'm just praying to God that all this talk about Dida the past week after the Anderlecht match won't prove to be some kind of jinx.

Their goals came from two blunders so to say they dominated + deserved victory is far from fact though you've got to take your chances. They had 3 shots on goal and scored 2 goals.

in all honesty... Dida was at fault for the second goal... but given his near perfect performance so far this season... a mistake like this can be forgiven since it is one of rarity... and to even make his case sound better... Milan was at no time near to scorin'... thus makin' the second goal nothin' more than a formality since the first goal was the match decidin' goal... and therefore this little mistake of his had no real bearings on the result...

Lets not be apologetic here, the entire team was at fault here, and everyone takes the blame no matter how good their preformances were over the past few weeks.

well... i do reward past good performances as it only boils well when handlin' such sensitive issues... do you really want the blame to fall on Dida's shoulder now that he was probably havin' the best run of form since last season's poor displays? how do you think Dida would react if he was at minimal fault... yet blamed for someone else's glarin' mistakes? reward that by signin' the contract extension or get sick of always gettin' the wrath of the fans even when he was the least at fault?

dida should ve punched that ball to corner, but i dont think our defence should let players to shot from that distance, they should block it and be more agressive on that part of the pitch..

just remember the goal against bayern m. when balack scored..
they left him alone so he was able to do whathever he wanted with that ball.

it was almost the same position

I guess when our goalkeeper make a mistake, it is the job of our striker to earn back the points.
And it is the job of our midfielder to create the chance for our striker.
We cannot expect Dida to be perfect all the time.
We do deserve to lose and it is not Dida's fault.

All the goals Dida conceded were not his mistake.
Milan 2-1 Red Star was because our defenders relax that Billy passed the ball to Red Star's attacker.
Milan 2-1 Lazio was our midfilders let Lazio players passed our midfilder so easily and that goal was offside in my opinion.
Milan 1-1 Sampodria was because Maldini + Janku had a mis-understood with each other which let the striker heading the ball without any marking.
Milan 0-2 Palermo: the first was Nesta's mistake, he lost the position. The second goal was because Palermo's count-attack was so fast, Dida made two great saves but i believe even the god couldn't save the third shot.

I've just seen the Amauri score in the highlights (as frustratingly small as the screen is). It looked like a fast trajectory; the ball was not deliberately batted into traffic because there was quite a bit of kickback when the ball hit his hands. Heck, after the block, I could've completed a crossword puzzle by the time the ball was finally put in the net, despite the three other Milan players in the penalty area.

Meanwhile, all the hosers on the other boards are instantly reviving the "Dida needs to be replaced" claptrap again. If the goal were indeed his fault, fine, but that nonsense bugs the hell out of me. Where were all the bashers when Milan were keeping all those clean sheets?
