I believe Abate will turn into a real proper wingback. So what real proper wingback you want for <8M?

That's also my opinion. Abate is young and he's doing great in midfield and defense, so why should we sell him. I want him to stay with Milan for many years, I really like him. He will get better with more playing time and it's great that he can play in different positions.

yea, i think over time, and with more match time, he will properly fit into that position..i can already seem him connecting with pato on that right side occasionally..hes got great pace, which complements patos pace on the right wing..if he can work on his defending and getting his crosses on point, then he will be very suitable..plus, hes Italian, and i would much rather keep as many Italian players as possible, as said above me..

he will be a good player to be on the squad. I think he is more usefull than Antonini(that is doing a good work too).

well he thing about it is, is that both abate and antonini have barely had any first team action with us over the years, with abate being loaned out and antonini riding the bench under ancelotti..given more time in the starting 11, i think both players will adjust according to there positions..antonini is use to playing the left-wing back..abate is making the transfer from midfield, to right-wing back..time and patience..

You lot are all very pessimistic, do you think the likes of any Pirlo, Pippo, Nesta etc were immediately at the level they're at now when they were Abate's age? He clearly has a lot of talent and can be a massive success in serie a. I have no doubt. When playing, he's been our best wb by far. People question his defensive abilities, well I've seen him save us countless times and actually done a pretty decent job overall. We don't really have Evra or Maicon to field so I see no reason why we should sell him. I see Abate alongside TS, Pato, Flamini and Dzeko maybe Rannocchia as the next generation of Milan. Have faith. If it was up to me, Abate would actually be one of the first wingbacks I'd call for Italy as well. Antonini would also have a good chance.

His agent says we're close to extending his contract, which is amazing. When Pato / Dinho are in need of rest I wouldn't mind seeing him as WF as well.

Wont we get more than 15mil if we sell both Oddo & Zambro when u consider their wage ?
Abate isnt world class but I rather keep him/sell Oddo-Zambro + use the money 2 add a good full back.
Abate is our youngster + have room 2 improve while Oddo + Zambro 100% guaranteed 2 play lik shit.

abate works hard every game...there hasn't been one game yet that i have seen him play in, where he wasn't giving 100%..i would hope that we dont sell him, because in whatever position we play him in, he has plenty of time to improve..

once again he did well. Leonardo should have taken out Zambro for Pato and moved Abate in at RB since we needed a victory. Abate is a better RB than winger I believe. He's best as a true RM, but he will become a great RB if given time. He has a good defensive instinct surprisingly.

I guaranee Miccoli wouldn't have been able to make that fantastic run to create the second goal if Abate was there. Anto had to come all the way over to the right side to cover for Zambrotta and Ambro's asses. Abate would have tracked back like he normally does and then Anto could have been in the box like he would have if we wasn't forced to cross the field bcuz of Zambro's lack of awareness and priorities.

With the situation of the ball going to the left more it is because it is the natural & most easy way for right footed players to kick the ball(Milan's midfielders all prefer their right side more & kick it more often to the left).

riscitiello: "Abate a revelation in 2009"

Criscitiello: "Abate a revelation in 2009"

Three more days to greet a new year and say goodbye to a 2009 full of satisfactions for many. The year of the revival of discoveries but also of rebirth. We have a mind clouded by the market since January 2 sharing, all in one breath until the first February, and perhaps even more beautiful that way. Concentrated in a month, a mix of emotions between the market and the championship. We invent nothing at the end of each year there are annual reports, report cards and we look forward with good intentions. 2009 that is about to end has given us many surprises. 10 names to press. Milan have rediscovered Ignazio Abate, home grown product that is finally returned home, after stopping in Napoli, Modena, Piacenza and Turin. Leonardo has had to adapt to the needs of the club, Abate has had to adapt to the needs of the technician. And then one attacking midfielder for the National Under-21 is "arranged" a right-back. Excellent insight and especially good interpretation. For this reason Ignazio Abate deserves to be in the top ten of this 2009.

Abate: "Think of Genoa not to Juve"

Abate: "Think of Genoa not to Juve"
04.01.2010 20.01 by Luca Iannone
Source: repubblica.it

Back to the League for Milan and the adversary is not the easiest. Ignazio Abate to the microphones of Sky Sport24 has ensured that the concentration of the Rossoneri's all about Griffin. "We lost the last match against Palermo, but apart from this parenthesis negative, we were in a positive streak and now we look forward to returning to camp and return to success, especially in front of our fans. We know that against rossoblù will not be easy - still outside - but we are confident. We Genoa on Wednesday and then Juventus, we can say that January is the month to be truth for us, but when we think only of Genoa, and knowing that it will easy, try to get three points, only after'll do at Juve. " Abate has great esteem for the formation of Gasperini and explains that to bend it serves "the maximum concentration and great respect, perhaps, is the team that runs more in Italy, but I am confident because I see that we are fielding the highest commitment to start immediately with victory.

abate did well again today. the goal.com ratings are for retards. yes, he did poorly on the 1st goal for Genoa as he didn't mark Sculli. But, the positional sense will come. After his mistake, he didn't let a single other player get the better of him. He will get better and better. He is the future RB of Milan and Anto did fantastic at LB. Told u guys Anto is good

Abate just made a poor read.
People forget he is not a natural fullback so it will take time before he learns his trade, in saying that, he was guilty of ball watching. Lapse in concentration. Nothing more. He made some great runs up the flank though.

You brush this off as if it was nothing. That is huge for a defender. Those two issues you have stated cost us goals. We got away with it tonight because we were great in attack, and Genoa were awful. But we won't against good teams, or against Man Utd in Europe.

taking a bit on Abate's fault, I think there was also miss communication with him and Nesta, if you see the goal highlights the cross was actually reachable, but Nesta seems to let it pass for Abate to clear (he doesn't jump), and Abate doesn't read the attention and moreover doesn't see where's Sculli..
It was a bad mistake but, I believe there's also a lapse from the whole back line on that episode

Who said I was brushing it off like it was nothing?

It was a lapse in concentration from a midfielder which is making the transition into a fullback. Two completely different roles. It was not as though Abate doesn't know how to make a tackle or anticipate properly.

Roll back the footage when he performed a defensive masterclass on Lavezzi. The kid knows how to defend he just has to do it on a consistent basis. Which in time he will learn to develop. Defender is the most complex position to learn as it requires a fair bit of experience to learn how to read the game. Strikers even midfielders make numerous mistakes in a match but as soon as a defender makes one they get lavished with criticism.

You crucify Abate but not Nesta. How about we hammer the fuck out of Nesta who passed the ball to Suazo?

Because we all know Nesta is a world-class defender, and has been brilliant for us. But yes, it was incredible laziness from him for the second goal - an error I expect from Thiago Silva, not Nesta.

And I haven't crucified him at all. I'm mainly commenting on your point, that it is "nothing more" than a lapse in concentration. Fwiw, I don't think he will become good enough defensively to hold that position long-term.
