it would taint his image. he left serie a in a blaze of glory. and only ever played for one team. joining new york red bulls. would remove his image as a 1 club man and make it look like he moved for money.
no it wouldn't. You know how many one club legends have moved to semi-retirement leagues (like MLS) at end of there career?
It'd be 1 thing if he went to play even for a lower tier English or Spanish side... it's another going to MLS or dubai or japan. Maybe he wants to live in NYC (he visits new york and miami quite often) and just wants the experience, can't blame him.... we can't keep the guy chained to milan forever. He will always be the number 1 idol of milan irregardless...
About the MLS,it's interesting...... Each club is only allowed to have 1 designated player (well actually you can appeal for 2, and in ny red bulls case they'd get it). Designated player is a player who makes over there salary structure (over $400k per year) which maldini would surely get. Beckham is 1, blanco in chicago, ljundberg is in seattle... juan pablo angel was for red bulls.
Because of New York, the league is desperate to have a "BIG" star in NYC similar to beckham in LA. Still it'd be interesting for it to be a defender. Typically all the DP's are attacking players... Raul would make sense, Henry is the most rumored one, as he's stated he'd like to come to MLS after his barca contract is up in 2011. But Maldini to NYC would make sense too as there is a huge italian population in the new york area.... I always envisioned Pippo or Del Piero (ADP has been heavily rumored before too..) going TBH.
