Interesting. I thought this England team was somewhat likeable. Southgate genuinely seems like a sensible, decent guy, and the tabloid bullshit seemed to be on the periphery this time.
I wanted Croatia to thump England, and I am happy they won, but I can’t say I feel any real pleasure in seeing
this England lose (despite all the coming home stuff and the weird punditry).
All things considered, England were not that good in the end. And against a team like Croatia it really showed. But the way their fans came together and united behind the team was preferable to the idiocy we have seen in the past. This felt healthier even if ultimately delusional.
