Everyone who thinks Thiago Silva is a mercenary is a gigantic moron.
AC Milan are 200 million Euros in debt. We are selling Thiago Silva to reduce that debt. This has nothing to do with whether or not he wants to go. Like Kaka, he's taking one for the team and agreeing to a transfer. Lots of clubs do this. If Spurs were to sell Bale or if Liverpool sold Suarez, it would be a similar situation. Doesn't mean Bale is a mercenary, he's just the person being used by the club management to clear debt.
It's much easier to hate Thiago Silva than hate a combination of the Italian economy, Berlusconi's finances, but that doesn't mean it's right. Silva is more than happy to stay at Milan. He loves this club and would genuinely like to be this club's captain some day. Unfortunately he's probably been asked by management to accept this deal.
Galliani isn't stupid. He knows how important Silva is to the club. He's negotiating not because Silva wants to go. Silva probably DOES NOT want to go. He's negotiating because it's perceived to be necessary for the long term financial stability of the club.
I'd love as much as anyone for Milan to be in a financial position where we don't have to sell our stars. Teams like Juventus, Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid are lucky enough to have that situation. We aren't. We're broke. Unfortunately that means every few years someone may have to leave. It's looking like this year it's going to be Thiago Silva
I would MUCH rather sell Ibrahimovic than Thiago Silva, but if that's the club's choice, so be it. Just don't pin this all on Silva. He quite possibly had absolutely nothing to do with it.
