While I agree with you fully - that’s it’s too early to write him off - we have been following him since he was 13-14 and setting all kinds of absurd records.I think the idea that Camarda isn't developing fast enough at 18 to be unfair.
He's a true center-forward. It takes time for players in central positions to develop.
Look at Harry Kane's record before he broke out at 21 with Tottenham. He was not setting scoring records in the lower leagues.
Not everyone is going to be R9 or Van Basten who can be incredible at 17... and that's okay. It doesn't mean they have failed or that they are failing.
Does that mean Camarda will be the next Harry Kane? No, but you could have written off Kane at Camarda's age if your only metric is goals. Yes, that is the striker's job, but most of the all-time great strikers did not start banging in goals at 17. When they're younger you want to see if they understand the fundamentals of the position, which are centered around movement, off-the-ball runs, distribution and hold-up play. It's why Pippo is such a great striker to study, who didn't break out in Serie A until he was 23, mind you.
If you want to bet against young players making it, the odds are going to be overwhemlingly in your favor. It doesn't make you some supreme evaluator of talent, the vast majority of youth players will fail. Again, I'm not arguing that Camarda is a predestined, we don't even know if he'll get to the level of Cutrone--the point is that it is way too soon in his development to write him off.
While he is only 18, which is nothing especially for a CF - I think we all thought he’d be better by now. Maybe we got spoilt by Pato.
If we take the emotion out of it - has he really done anything even remotely impressive in the last 3 years? He was OK in primavera, OK in Futuro, and then a horrible loan move to Lecce (which admittedly isn’t his fault).
I fear we are holding onto his exploits in the u15 categories rather than anything he has done against grown men. I don’t sit and watch Camarda videos but is there anything really that special about him?
Again, I really truly hope I’m wrong - I would love for Camarda to become the next Van Basten - I’m just struggling to see the evidence behind the elite ceiling that many talk about.
