It'll be interesting seeing a big club go down this path. I think out of all the sports, football has the potential for the highest return with an analytical approach because of how free the market is

Disagree - football is too fluid and I think many things are missed / cant be captured correctly.

It definitely has its place and helps but if it didnt work fully in a super structured game like baseball, how is it going to help you sit at the table with the clubs who dwarf you in spending and also utilize these same analytics tools that you do.

Even if it does work, of course, there's still an immediate need for this season. We need Italians or at least, Italian-trained players.

They are doing well and there seems to be a lot of talent but the club needs to do a better job implementing these players into the first team

Most of the top Italian clubs rely on youth players in the first team in one way or another

Hopefully a more holistic approach accomplishes that and is the aim

Gerry does not and will not have a connection with the players, this is a company hierarchy with a trickle down structure. Gone are the days of attacare. Gordon singer came to see games like milan-empoli because he genuinely loves the team, gerry came to 1 cl match and to the last match just to fire Maldini.

If reports are true that he will be more present and hands on next year he has an uphill battle to fight.

I just wonder where the limit of data is since the sport doesn't have the discreet segmentation of roles, parameters, and point scoring that American sports lend themselves to, y'know?

Current data science / machine learning is much, much, more advanced than from the time of `Billy Bean. Just for example ChatGPT is trained on millions of lines of text and is trained just to predict the next word given the previous sequence of words. And just from this simple objective and only the training data it's able to figure by itself the rules of grammar, hidden rules of language semantics, mathematics, simple computer programming, translating languages....

That I why I think having someone like Moncada could work out if he's given enough resources, which isn't clear he will. Still I don't like the cheapness and crassness of Cuntinale at all. They guy has no class at all. He looks more like some street swindler.
